The footage opens up backstage right after WBSW Live goes off the air. Gunner Hughes is seen walking through the hallway in his street clothes, and a black gear bag hanging off his shoulder. He’s heading towards the exit, and just as his hand reaches out to push the door open, a voice is heard calling his name.
Voice: “Gunner! Wait up!”
Gunner stops in his tracks and turns his head to see who the voice is coming from, and the camera view pans around to show WBSW Interviewer Barry Lincoln hurrying down the hallway. Gunner turns around and looks at Barry, wondering what he could possibly want with him. The show was over, he won his match against Mia Poe, there’s nothing more to talk about…..what in the hell does this guy want?
Gunner: “What is it?”
Barry finally catches up with him and he leans up against the wall, huffing and puffing as he tries to catch his breath.”
Barry: “Jeez you walk fast. I wanted to get a few comments from you regarding your match, and also on what just went down at the end of WBSW Live.”
Gunner: “What about my match?”
Barry: “Well, the aftermath for one. After you defeated Mia Poe, the Fraggles came down to the ring and put her through a table……while you walked away and did nothing about it.”
Gunner shrugs.
Gunner: “My match was over and my job was done. Whatever business the Fraggles have with Mia Poe…is not my business.”
Barry: “Yeah, but don’t you think you could have at least tried to stop them?
Gunner crosses his arms and looks down at Barry with a mean stare.
Gunner: “Of course I could have stopped them….but why should I? Since when did I become the protector of the other WBSW superstars? Isn’t that Mitch Thompson’s job?”
Barry: “Well technically it is, but we’re talking about the Fraggles here.”
Gunner: “So what?”
Barry: “So What? They put Alex Morgan through a table tonight before once again destroying Mitch Thompson! It’s clearly going to take some cooperation from the rest of the roster if their assault on the WBSW is ever going to be stopped.
The mean glare slowly disappears from Gunner’s face, and is replaced with a look of compassion for Alex Morgan. Ever since singing his WBSW contract he has seen how the Fraggles have been a constant thorn in the boss’s side. The wrestler in him just wants to turn the other cheek and keep his eye on the prize, paying no mind to the Fraggles. But the business man in him cannot resist a chance for an opportunity.
Gunner: “Yeah I heard talk backstage about what happened to Alex Morgan. I was in my locker room so I didn’t see it, but either way, again it’s not my business. Alex made the mistake of choosing the wrong person to take out his trash for him, and now tonight he paid the price. Week after week he sends Mitch Thompson in to try to get these two clowns in check, and week after week Mitch gets his as kicked. You do gotta hand it to Mitch though, he sure has proven his loyalty. But he’s also proven that he will never stop the Fraggles. Maybe now Alex Morgan is just going to have to cave in to their demands and give Judas his title shot. Either that…..or hire somebody who can get the job done.”
An evil looking smile forms across Gunners lips as he reaches up and cracks his knuckles together. In his prior life, he’s had a lot of experience dealing with nuisances like the Fraggles. His methods have not always been agreeable to most, but then again…this is the WBSW. Barry then interrupts his train of thought.
Barry: “Well it seems that Alex has already granted Judas Fraggle a chance at the WBSW World Heavyweight Championship, as he’s placed him in a number one contender’s match next week on WBWS Live against….”
Gunner starts laughing, interrupting Barry.
Gunner: “Let me guess…..Mitch Thomson? You know, they say that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, while expecting different results. How many times is Alex Morgan gonna throw Mitch to the wolves before he realizes that it’s just not gonna work. The Fraggles have Mitch Thompson’s number, and they have been cashing it in every week since I’ve been here.”
Barry: “Well if you’ll let me finish Gunner….like I was saying, Alex Morgan has booked Judas Fraggle in a number one contender match for the WBSW World Heavyweight Championship next week on WBSW Live…..against you.”
A brief look of shock washes across Gunner’s face as he hears Barry’s words. A title shot? What has he done to deserve a title shot already? He imagines himself walking to the ring wearing the WBSW World heavyweight Championship around his waist, and he gets a chill down his spine as he foams at the mouth. He decides right there that he was going to do anything to win this match against Judas Fraggle, and his expression then turns to an interested smile as he begins to piece together the situation that he’s about to walk in to.
Gunner: “Ah ok…I get it.”
A confused Barry Lincoln looks back at him.
Barry: “What’s that?”
Gunner: “This match against Judas Fraggle….for a shot at the world title belt. It all adds up perfectly. Alex Morgan has finally come to the right place to have his problem taken care of. My payment? A chance to become the WBSW World Heavyweight Champion.”
He nods in approval, starting to like the sounds of fighting for the title.
Barry: “What are you talking about? You and Judas Fraggle have both been on a tear lately, so it only makes sense to have you two wrestle for the number one contender spot.”
Gunner gets a cocky smile on his face, thinking that he has it all figured out.
Gunner: “You’re right Barry, that’s one way to look at it. But a more realistic way to look at it is to just open your eyes and see the picture that’s been painted right in front of us over the past few weeks. It’s like you said, the Fraggles have clearly declared an assault on the superstars of the WBSW. Nobody has been able to stop them, not even the head of WBSW security. This week they even got their hands on Alex Morgan himself! Desperate times call for desperate measures, and the boss turned to the only other man he knows will step up to the plate and go to bat.”
Barry: “Well look at it however you want, but the fact remains….you’re facing Judas Fraggle for the number one contender spot next week. The last couple of people who have faced Fraggle have tasted wood, as they’ve been put through a table in the aftermath of the match. With David Fraggle always on the outside of the ring posing the threat of interference, how will you avoid this double teaming?”
Gunner smiles.
Gunner: “They can go ahead and bring their tables…that’s fine with me……let’s make a party out of it. I’ll bring the chairs.”
Barry: “Well to be serious Gunner, with David Fraggle always on the outside of the ring, you’ll need a gamelan to deal with the double team tactics that the Fraggles use to overtake their opponents.”
Gunner: “Listen Barry, you obviously have no idea who you’re talking to. I can appreciate the fact that Judas Fraggle has been raising hell the past few weeks, but next week that all comes to an end. Even though they’ve been showing their faces during my matches, they’ve done a pretty decent job of staying out of my way so far. But whether it was fate, a positional battle in the rankings, or Alex Morgan himself who called for this match….our paths have finally crossed, and their fun is now over. Next week Judas Fraggle’s reign of terror comes to an end, courtesy of Gunner Hughes!”
Barry goes to ask another question, but Gunner cuts him off.
Gunner: “I’m sorry Barry, but that’s all the time I have for now….I have a match to prepare for. And then after that, I guess it will be on to claim the WBSW World Heavyweight Championship.”
Gunner turns and walks out of the arena exit and the scene fades.
Voice: “Gunner! Wait up!”
