The footage opens up and the inside of an empty gym is shown. Off in the distance a dull thumping sound is heard, and as the camera view starts to move through the gym the sound gets louder. The view moves past a few different exercise machines, and the source of the dull thumping sound is then revealed. Gunner Hughes is seen in his training attire bouncing around a heavy bag, pounding away at it with roundhouses as he circles back and forth around it. The view continues to move towards him, and as it gets closer he glances up briefly and notices the camera. He keeps tossing lefts and rights at the heavy bag as he starts to speak.
Gunner: “When I walked into the WBSW and signed my name on the bottom of that WBSW contract, I never imagined that a little over a month later I would be headed toward a world title match. But here I am, a trail of broken bodies behind me…..one more step away from Wrestlefest where I face Hale Collins for the chance to walk away wearing the WBSW World Heavyweight Championship.”
Gunner throws a three punch combo, ending it with an uppercut and sending the heavy bag swinging. He turns and grabs a water bottle that’s sitting on a table next to him, and also picks up a towel from the table as well. He uses the towel to wipe some of the sweat from his forehead, and then takes a big drink from the water bottle before continuing on, an angry looking expression on his face.
Gunner: “You’d think that a person in my shoes would be pretty happy about his situation…but honestly that just isn’t the case with me lately. I look around at the rest of the WBSW roster, and I can't help but to shake my head at some of what I see, or more specifically what I don't see.....motivation. And really, I shouldn't even care....but for some reason, I do. You see, when I walked into this company I made it one of my personal goals to just keep to myself and pay no mind to what the rest of the WBSW was doing. I figured if I just went out to that ring and did my thing, I would eventually be rewarded with opportunities like the one that I have coming up at Wrestlefest. But then came the Fraggles to put a monkey wrench in those plans. Week after week they showed their faces during my matches, and they just couldn’t keep themselves out of my business. In the end, Judas Fraggle answered for his curiosity and he faced me in the ring, only to walk away with the loss of the match and the loss of his job. I wanted to stop the Fraggles reign of terror on the WBSW, and for the time being, I think I have achieved that.
Gunner takes another drink of water.
Gunner: “So after that match there I was sitting in my locker room, knowing that I had just violated one of my own cardinal rules that I set for myself when I became a WBSW superstar….I actually gave a damn. Not about the superstars that the Fraggles were beating senseless every week, but about the flag that they were doing it under. The WBSW is my new home now, and I don’t know about the rest of these stiffs on the roster, but I will defend my home with a fierce vengeance against anybody who tries to compromise it…including its own superstars!”
He downs the rest of the water then crushes the plastic bottle in his fist and tosses it into a nearby trash can. He then crosses his arms and leans back against the table as he continues on.
Gunner: “So now here I am, a week off from Wrestlefest, tasked with once again wrestling the head of WBSW security Mitch Thompson on the next edition of WBSW Live. Mitch, I have to hand it to you…you did take care of business last week. At the request of Alex Morgan, you removed David Fraggle from the arena without hesitation even though he had a ticket stub in his hand, and you didn’t even flinch at the thought of Judas lurking behind you when you did it. I think I’m beginning to realize why Alex chose you to head his security team. Maybe you have some fight in you after all?”
Gunner laughs.
Gunner: “But removing a wrestling manager from the crowd is a far cry from what you’re tasked with this week on Live isn’t it Mitch?”
Gunner laughs again as he remember back to the first meeting he had with Mitch Thompson.
Gunner: “I won’t lie to you Mitch, in that first encounter of ours…I was looking to make an example out of you. I was still on a mission to make a name for myself in the WBSW and you just ended up as being the sacrificial lamb. And even though that was only a few weeks ago, things are much different this time around Mitch because win or lose this week on Live, I’m still going to Wrestlefest to face Hale Collins for the WBSW World Heavyweight Championship. But make no mistake, even though my title shot is concrete, I will still be coming to Live this week bring the fight to you, which seems to be much more than I can say for some of our fellow WBSW roster members.”
He wipes some more sweat from his face with the towel and tosses it back onto the table, then he takes position in front of the heavy bag again and start to throw combinations as he continues.
Gunner: “I can’t say that I personally know any of the superstars who make up our roster in the WBSW, but I have been inside the ring with a few of them and have passed many more of them walking through the hallway in the backstage area during the live shows. I may be new to the world of professional wrestling, but I am definitely no stranger to being in a fight. Fighting has been in my blood my entire life, and I have accepted and embraced that fact. There’s a certain flare that a person gets when they’re truly ready to enter a fight, when they’re truly ready to put everything on the line and walk through hell and back in order to win.”
Gunner unleashes a devastating combo, sending the heavy bag swinging on its hooks again.
Gunner: “I’ll be honest, I haven’t seen that flare much in the eyes of the WBSW superstars lately. Walking through the backstage these days, I do see some promising new talent seeping in. But I also see these scrubs like OK USA and the Best of British who have been here a few weeks…and I can already see the wear and tear that the WBSW has put them all through. In fact, they have a tag team championship match this week, and none of them have even been seen or heard from. And Best of British are supposed to be representing our brand at Wrestlefest?”
He shakes his head.
Gunner: “Well if that’s what you call the best of the British, then I would really hate to see the worst. In any case, you boys just sit on your asses and relax, and leave it up to the big dogs to represent the WBSW.”
He lets out a growl and nails the heavy bag with another viscous combo, ending with roundhouse. He then takes a couple of steps back and transitions to low and mid-level kicks as he continues on.
Gunner: “As sad as it is to admit, maybe David Fraggle made a little bit of sense after all. He always said that the WBSW needed men like Judas Fraggle, and I’m starting to think that maybe he was right. Sure, we don’t need them running rampant through our superstars putting them through tables and stuff, but you see….one of the very few people that I’ve encountered who has had that flare in his eyes for the fight was Judas Fraggle. I could tell just by looking on his eyes that he was ready to do whatever it took to destroy me….he just didn’t get it done that night. But fired or not….I’d be ignorant to think that I’ve seen the last of him.”
He peppers the heavy bag with a series of low & mid kicks, then steps back and turns to the camera, a serious look in his eyes.
Gunner: “This week Mitch Thompson, I hope to see that flare in your eyes too. Neither one of us has anything to lose in this match, which to some may make it seem like a pointless match, but to me it’s the exact opposite. How many times in a wrestler’s career can he walk out to that ting and just put on a show…with nothing at stake? No positioning, no title implications and no grudges….just straight up entertainment for the masses. This is one of the few weeks where we just get to go out there and have fun Mitch, and show the rest of the world why the WBSW belongs among the elite in professional wrestling. Maybe some of our tag teams are losing steam, but not me Mitch, not in the least…..and I certainly hope you aren’t either. I guess we’ll see this week on Live won’t we?”
Gunner turns to face the heavy bag again, this time going back to punches and knees as he gives one last statement before the footage ends.
Gunner: ”See you soon Mitch....”
The footage fades to black.
