Get the Bull by the horns and hold on tight.
Finally, things were looking up for Alice Harris.
Spreading her time between NAW and her parent company, PRW, the Dirty Little Thing and promising athlete had managed to make quite an impact. Putting in a good effort in the Horizon title battle royal match, coming in first and making it to the final three despite the odds heavily being stacked against her. People were starting to take notice of her and for the right reasons too, the one thing she always wanted. Sure, she was attractive but not drop dead gorgeous and most women in the wrestling industry had the look of a model about them so any skill they may have possessed was often overlooked for their flesh and attire. By proving she wasn't there to make up the numbers, Alice hoped she could at least change that perception of female wrestlers in NAW.
Krystal, Alice's older sister and MMA fighter/training partner was sat across from Alice in a bar. It was mid afternoon, it was warm but not too overbearing and the weather would have been fine for sitting out in the beer garden which Krystal originally wanted to do, but Alice, not a fan of the heat preferred to stay in the shade with the air-con on. Taking a sip from her drink, a vodka and lemonade, Alice sat the glass down on the table and leaned her head back. The cool breeze of the air-con felt good against her skin. Wearing a black sports bra styled top more akin to that of running gear and a black mini skirt, the brunette was certainly taking her off day to get her looks across more than her ability.
Alice: "I guess... I mean I've hit the ground running, I've made some progress here and Alice White just rewarded me with a match against Corey Bull, the NAW Champion!"
Krystal raised an eyebrow in surprise. Partly due to the progress her younger sibling was making and partly because she wondered whether Alice being given a non-title match against the top champion was wise at this early stage in her career.
Krystal: "I'm pleased for you sis... I really am, but don't you think it's a little suspect, you getting a go at the champion in a non-title setting right before the big event?"
Alice furrowed her brow as she registered Krystal's words. Sipping her drink again, she leaned forwards, elbows on the table and spoke with a hint of sternness in her voice.
Alice: "Whatever do you mean by that sister?"
The icy tone to her voice shown that Krystal had indeed hit a nerve. Realising Alice wouldn't drop this issue until she had an answer, Krystal leaned back and casually looked across the bar as if she was 'scouting' for someone.
Krystal: "Well, you've faced an uphill battle since you came here... Fighting guys twice your size, being partnered with a man who didn't think you belonged in the ring, getting tossed about and being the prime target in that battle royal match because you're the smallest in there and now being given the chance to face the top champion... Sounds like you're being thrown to the wolves more than being given a chance to shine"
Alice leaned back, a look of shock crossed her words. She understood her sisters suspicions about the booking in NAW and their motives regarding her matches, but at the same time, she was hurt by her sister not seeming to be too pleased with her progression.
Alice: "So you see this as glass half empty then?"
Krystal looks down at her drink. Hers coincidentally is half empty.
Krystal: "I'm just trying to give you another perspective sis... You're getting attention, you're improving, people are noticing you which is all you ever wanted... But it's almost like you're being used to enhance others instead of yourself. Booking the new girl against the champ right before a big event spells easy warm up and momentum builder to me... I'm sorry I see it this way, but that's the only way I can see this situation..."
Alice took a larger gulp of her drink and set it down with authority. As the glass hit the table with a firm clink, Krystal took a deep breath. Alice had a very bad temper at times and the slightest things could set it off. Clearly her not being fully supportive and trying to be realistic in her mind must have lit the fuse on that powder keg and any second now she was going to explode.
Alice: "Sure.. You can see it as a negative. Be like everyone else who didn't think I could cut it. Be like mom and dad who would have preferred me to stay home and work a 9 to 5 job or go to college and then law school or something equally tiresome. Mom and dad scoffed at you when you moved to Portland and became a cage fighter, mom and dad scoffed at me when I went to Alaska and started wrestling... You should know better sis...."
Krystal let her head hang a little as Alice continued.
Alice: "All my life, everyone has been looking down on me. I'm athletic but not a super athlete. I'm pretty but not super hot. I like girls and I like guys but I keep getting called a dyke. I've had creeps physically throw themselves at me and disguise it as wrestling... I've been humiliated enough and right now, I'm fighting back, slowly pulling myself out of the rubble and getting back to my feet. I have a title, I have the eye of a supportive owner, I have the chance to make it... And all you're bothered about is trying to bring me down"
Picking her drink up, Alice knocked the remainder of it back in one go. Wiping her mouth with the back of her hand and reaching into her pocket she pulled out some notes and slammed them down on the table.
Alice: "Get yourself another one and drink to my failure will ya?"
Storming out of the bar, Alice sat down on the wall outside and looked across at the street. People were just milling around, minding their own business.
Alice wondered out loud, talking to no one in particular. As she sat there on the wall and sighed, her phone went. Picking it up, she answered it.
Alice: "Hello?"
The disappointment in her voice suddenly lifted.
Alice: "Hey Nebby girl!!... Thanks!! I'm glad you got the chance to watch me... It was so cool... I'm a champion and I'm getting a crack at another champion..."
Nebraska Jones, PRW star and the recipient of Alice's affection but she wouldn't openly admit it had called her. The two were good friends and Alice hoped that the girl with big dreams, a killer body and a crazy train of a mind would be supportive of her.
Alice: "You think so? I mean other people are writing me off already on this match... Just saying I'm there as a practise run for him at his big event..."
Alice listens intently as she smiles.
Alice: "You're right... Grab that Bull by the horns and hold on tight... He's expected to win this rodeo, but I'm gonna say otherwise in that ring... You're the best Nebs!"
Before Alice could say anything further, Nebraska hung up on her.

Do people just see the Dirty Little Thing as that... a Little Thing? Someone they can use to give the guys an easy ride? Get some extra views in?"

"Damn... I was gonna ask if she was free over the next few days... Still... I gotta pick myself up... Prove everyone wrong... I gotta prove that the Dirty Little Thing means business. First the PRW Internet Championship, next, beating the Bull!"
