The scene opens up, and a close up shot of the WBSW World Heavyweight Championship is shown. The view then slowly begins to zoom out, and the title belt is seen to be around the waist of Gunner Hughes, the man who came out of Wrestlefest victorious as the new champion. He’s in his street gear which consist of sunglasses, jeans, and his usual black signature logoed T-shirt. He’s walking through the backstage area of a WBSW venue, and he has a cocky smile on his face as he struts proudly with his newly won title belt. People are congratulating him and patting him on the back as he walks by them, and a man in a business suit then steps out in front of him and walks along side of him as he introduces himself.
Man: “Here there champ…my name’s Jefferson Fisk, and I manage pro athletes across the globe.”
Gunner looks back at Jefferson with an uninterested expression on his face.
Gunner: “So what?”
Jefferson: “Well now that you’re the WBSW World Heavyweight Champion, a whole new window of opportunities has been opened for you. I’m talking endorsement deals, merchandising, clothing lines….”
Jefferson sees the annoyed look on Gunner’s face and decides to just let him think it over. He reaches inside his suit pocket and produces a business card.
Jefferson: “Here’s my card…think about it champ. I could make you a fortune.”
Gunner reluctantly takes the card and continues down the hallway as Jefferson heads off in the opposite direction. He examines the card for a few moments, then suddenly a beautiful blonde woman wearing a blue skin tight dress steps out and extends her hand to Gunner.
Woman: ”Hello Gunner, my name is Victoria Frost, and I’m a freelance manager who represents pro sports athletes.”
A smile forms on Gunner’s face as he crumples up the card that’s in his hand and tosses it aside, then stops walking to examine the scenery standing in front of him from behind his sunglasses. He then removes his glasses and folds them up, hanging them off of his shirt collar as he reaches out and accepts her handshake.
Gunner: “A pleasure to meet you Vickie.”
Victoria: ”I’m here in Pennsylvania scouting talent to add to the pool of superstars that I currently represent, and you sir and a very worthy candidate. You ever thought about hiring yourself a manager? Being the WBSW World Heavyweight Champion, you could be striking deals with sponsors, making money from WBSW merchandise, and all kinds of other financial perks.”
Gunner gets the feeling of déjà vu and he laughs at her comments.
Gunner: “Yeah, so I’ve heard.”
A voice is then heard yelling Gunner’s name off in the distance, and the camera view swings around to show WBSW reporter Barry Lincoln hurrying down the hallway towards Gunner with his hand in the air.
Barry: “Gunner! Hey wait up!”
The view then turns back towards Gunner and Victoria, and she nods towards Barry who is heading down the hallway towards them.
Victoria: ”I can see you’re a busy man Gunner, here…just sleep on it and gimme a call when you’re ready to do business.”
She produces a business card of her own and hands it to Gunner, who takes it and watches her walk away as Barry then arrives next to him.
Barry: “Who was that?”
Gunner glances down at the card, then at Barry as he puts it in his back pocket and starts to head down the hallway again with Barry following alongside of him.
Gunner: “Nobody. So where’s this going down at Barry? You have a spot picked out?”
Barry: “Yeah right up here, I have us an office up here on the right.”
The two arrive at the office door and Barry takes a seat behind the desk and motions to a sofa that’s sitting on the opposite wall where Gunner makes himself comfortable.
Barry: “Hey champ, I just want to thank you again for this short interview for my article, it’s not too often that I get a chance to do a sit down with the WBSW World Heavyweight Champion.”
Gunner leans back in the sofa and puts his feet up on a table that’s sitting in front of him, and Barry hits the record button on a tape recorder that’s sitting on the desk in front of him
Gunner: “It’s my pleasure Barry. So what’s on your mind?”
Barry: “Well, I’m more interested in what on your mind Gunner. A week ago you walked away from Wrestlefest as the new WBSW World Heavyweight Champion. What’s it feel like?”
A big smile forms on Gunner’s face.
Gunner: “What does it feel like? Well critics everywhere said it couldn’t be done. The stiffs in the UWL all predicted that it was going to end the other way. The champ himself said I wasn’t even going to be a challenge. But as I sit here right now wearing the WBSW World Heavyweight Championship…..I proved that they were all sorely mistaken. So words can’t even begin to express how good it feels to have silenced so many non believers.
He laughs as he glances down at the title belt, a look of satisfaction on his face.
Barry: “Well you did indeed become the new champion, but not without a hard fought road. Not only did you have to go through a list of superstars to get your title shot at Wrestlefest, but you also had to overcome the champ himself Hale Collins.”
Gunner: “Oh it wasn’t easy at all….not in the least. Hale brought the fight just like he said he was going to, there’s no doubt about that. But let’s be honest here Barry….was the path I walked to get to the title really that difficult? On paper it sure looked like it was, I mean I had to go through Mia Poe, the head of WBSW security Mitch Thompson two times, and also the beast known as Judas Fraggle just to get my chance at this title belt. But if you go back and watch those matches, Mia Poe and Mitch Thompson pretty much rolled over and waved their white flags before the match had even begun. They didn’t even show their faces in public the weeks of those matches, and when the bell rang it was like taking candy from a baby. Not that I’d ever do something like that, but you know what I mean.
Barry: “Of course.”
Gunner: “But Judas Fraggle and Hale Collins, they showed up ready to fight and they made me bring my A game. Those two, even though we may not all be on the same page in the WBSW, they’ve earned my respect as fellow warriors in the WBSW.”
Barry: “Well as you know, Judas Fraggle has since been fired from the WBSW, but this week on Live the other Fraggle, David, has a chance to earn his spot on the WBSW roster if he can beat Mitch Thompson. And speaking of this week on Live, you are slated to face off against the self-proclaimed “Overweight Champion” John Tucker. The last time we seen Tucker inside a WBSW ring, he shocked the then world champion Hale Collins in what many are calling the upset of the year. Tucker will be coming to Live this week looking to defeat the WBSW World Heavyweight Champion for the second time in a row. He’s even campaigning for a title fight if he beats you. Your thoughts?”
Gunner smiles at thought of facing John Tucker this week on Live. At first thought, this man was a complete fool with his silly gimmick, but Tucker did beat Hale Collins, so he would not be underestimating him.
Gunner: “I’ll give credit to where credit is due, somehow John Tucker did beat Hale Collins. But you see Barry, this whole “World Overweight Champion” crap that this guy is throwing around to people…I mean, it’s amusing and all, but there’s only one world champion in the WBSW and you’re looking at him. I don’t know what Hale Collins was smoking or drinking the night he lost to John Tucker, but I can assure you and Mr. Tucker that I will be coming to this fight as focused as you’ve ever seen me. Now that I am the WBSW World Heavyweight Champion, I intend to stay that way. So I’d imagine that the road I’ll have to walk from here on out will be much tougher than the one I took to get here.”
Barry: ”Well John Tucker may seem a little off when he’s not inside the ring, but once the bell rings you have to agree that so far he seems ready for whatever comes his way in the WBSW.”
Gunner: “Sure, he’s proven his worth in the WBSW, there’s no denying that. That’s much more than I can say for many of our other guys. I know how much Tucker wants his shot at gold in the WBSW, and I don’t mean that piece of metal he calls the overweight title belt. So I know damned well that he will be coming to this match with one thought on his mind, to beat the champ by any means necessary.”
Barry: “So let me ask you this then Gunner, just hypothetically….if Tucker were to beat you, would you grant him a title shot?”
Gunner takes his feet down and leans forward in his seat, staring across the room at Barry as he responds.
Gunner: ”I don’t pick my opponents Barry, the WBSW does. I’ll fight whoever they put in front of me, and I don’t care what the stakes are. So if they want to give John Tucker or anybody else a shot at this title, then that’s fine by me. They can line up as many challengers as they want; I’ll just keep knocking them down.”
Barry: “Well Gunner, you certainly do have yourself a challenge this week. John Tucker is starting to build momentum in the WBSW, and he will be looking to add to that with a win over the new champ. Now one last question before we end this….what are your plans as WBSW World Heavyweight Champion?”
Gunner: ”My plans are simple….I plan to put the “world” in the WBSW World Title. We may just be a small wrestling promotion from Pennsylvania, but our fame will reach the ends of the glove if I can help it.”
Barry: “And how do you plan to achieve that?”
Gunner smiles.
Gunner: “You’ll just have to keep watching Barry. For now, John Tucker is what my main focus us on. Tucker thinks he has what it takes to step inside the ring with a real world champion, so I’m going to give him the ultimate test. And when it’s all over and the dust has settled……he’s going to find out that he’s failed miserably!”
Barry: “Well thank you Gunner…I think that about does it. I can’t wait to print this up for the WBSW magazine.”
Barry hits the stop button on the tape recorder and starts to arrange all the paperwork that’s scattered on the desk in front of him as Gunner stands up.
Gunner: “No problem Barry. You take care.”
He heads towards the door, and Barry looks up from his paperwork to bid him farewell.
Barry:”Thanks again champ…good luck this week.”
Gunner nods at him as he walks through the door and into the hallway. He then reaches back and pulls out the business card in his back pocket, looking it over again and appearing to be in thought as the scene fades.
Man: “Here there champ…my name’s Jefferson Fisk, and I manage pro athletes across the globe.”
