“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
-Sun Tzu,
"Name: Jeckel, Jack
Height: Six-Two
Weight: two fifty five..."
Alice stands at a table in a dimly lit room. As the camera filming the segment does a panning shot of the surroundings, we see a wall covered in newspaper cuttings with various things circled on them before it shifts to a wall with a whiteboard on with various things scrawled on it and then to the other wall - the one with a TV bolted to it which is currently showing footage from a wrestling match which has been paused.
Laid out on the table in front of her are three files in manila binders. Each one is open and their contents are spread across the table, almost like this was a criminal investigation. With both hands pressed against the table, Alice leans over it, her eyes darting across the contents of what is laid out in front of her, occasionally speaking some of it out loud.
"Style: Technical, strong
Key techniques: Poison Mist, Chokeslam, Minchinoku Driver 2
Threat level: Consider the most dangerous of the family"
From these tidbits of verbalized information, it is clear that Alice is doing her final research on her opponents - one of the three members of the Jeckel Family. Looking up at the board in front of her before pushing away from the table and shaking her head, folding her arms across her chest and slowly exhaling, she begins to speak.
"So Vincent Alejandro thinks he can fuck with NAW still... Him and his little party who have all joined forces for mutual gain and nothing else.... Placing me in a three on one situation after approving a sneak attack from the next person to challenge me... Trying to weaken my position and strengthen his... And my potential opponents keeping the smoke and mirrors working by all making thinly veiled threats aimed at me but not implicating who will be the one to do the dirty work of an incapable and spineless bastard...."
Pacing round the table, Alice continues to talk.
"You know, you could claim that Alejandro is an inspired tactician with this dick move he has pulled... But those claims would be unfounded... Simply because what he offers up - me against one of three, he seems to forget that I have triumphs over them all... The brothers in tag action and the sister in one on one action... I am 2-0 against the numbers game on the front of the Jeckels... And if one was to extrapolate further, widen the net, take my overall record into consideration... Well, you would see I have only lost two one on one matches and only been defeated by one person outright.."
Smirking to herself, the Legacy champion casts her eye to the very title she gave her all for as it glistens in the dim glow of the lighting.
"He may have overlooked the fact that all who have came before me have fallen, no matter how big, how small, how experienced, how strong or how technical they are... Be it through pinfall, submission or disqualification, I have triumphed over all odds against me and I will continue to... Why? Because I am Alice Harris, that is why...."
Looking back to the table, Alice lifts up some of the papers and thumbs through them, half mumbling some of the words on them and making observations at the pictures present before tossing them back down.
"Now, you may wonder what kind of an answer me saying who I am is... And if you weren't then you already know why... But most of you won't, so I will explain... Sun Tzu, the philosopher and esteemed tactician said that in order to achieve total victory, you must know yourself and know your enemy... Now, whilst me and the Jeckel family may be familiar with each other in the ring to an extent and we may have ideas of what we want the other side to see from us, I am fully confident that I know myself and them to a sufficient level where my total victory is all but assured.. It seems that Alejandro though only seems to know himself by his selection of people to face me in his fight with Alice White..."
Turning her back to the table and focusing on the whiteboard and the various coded scribbles she has wrote on it, the Legacy Champion runs her fingers through her hair.
"Why does he only know himself? Simple... He throws before me people who I have taken down already... He sends Rocky Hollywood against what he prays will be a compromised Legacy Champion, seemingly forgetting that I already cast Rocky aside in a tightly fought contest a matter of weeks ago. He forgets that I survived against the Horizon Champion and have been the only person in months to actually give the Hatebringer a real challenge... He forgets all this because he is too engrossed in himself to know anything about anything or anyone else around him... And for that, he will fail dramatically whilst making tiny gains...."
Placing her hands on her hips, Alice turns back to the table and continues to walk round it, talking all the time.
"But enough of what is to come down the line... This is about what is to come next.... A unique family, from the supposed and widely accepted home of the semi-historical Dracula, all with different strengths and weaknesses... Alone, they are like any other person who steps into the ring, but as a unit, they cover each other's weaknesses. They are the three points which make up the triangle, the sum of their parts all equals a structurally solid unit... Proof - they are the tag champions..."
Moving her right hand, Alice unclips something on her belt and withdraws her combat knife. Twirling it in her hands, she turns away from the table to look at the board once again as she runs her fingertips across the flat side of the blade.
"But no matter how structurally solid things appear to be, there is always a weak link which can be exploited... Be it mental, physical, emotional or psychological... There is always a way to expose a fatal flaw and to strike true... Like the stake through the heart depicted in works of fiction and on the silver screen, everything has that one weakness which will drop it with minimal fuss... All you need to do is work out what it is..."
Sitting on the table now, Alice looks at the knife in her hands as she idly changes her grip on it, playing with the balance and occasionally making mock slices as she speaks.
"We have the bigger of the three, Jack... The technician with a lot of bulk and strength in him.... Jake, the leader and the ruthless one and Helena, the mastermind... Precision, Power, Planning... Together, this is a formidable combination, anyone who denied it would be a fool... But this isn't a three on one directly... This is ultimately a one on one... And the sum of the parts is definitely greater than the individual pieces which the whole is made of."
Alice pauses as she admires her reflection in the blade's surface.
"Jack is big, he's strong and he is very precise... But I'm quicker, he cannot utilize that power if he cannot keep me pinned down or hold of me.... Jake is a fighter, but if you take away his ability to strike.. Or at least compromise it, then my technique is superior to his... And then we have Helena, who may be more aggressive than me, but when we faced off last, I was victorious, give the fact that whilst she fights well with her mind and her words, I fight well with my actions, my words and my thoughts... Individually, I can take them... But that isn't how this is going to go down... Because when you are champion, nothing is ever easy."
Alice grabs the blade of the knife firmly in her left hand. Not even flinching, she slowly draws the knife out of her clenched fist, slicing the skin open again and letting the crimson liquid flow freely. Now with a bloodied knife in hand, Alice turns her attention to the table and stabs the knife through a group picture of the Jeckels.
"Sacrifices must be made to achieve greater things or to appease deity's who look down at humanity as if they were pawns on a chessboard, there to be thrown forward into harm's way at any and every possible chance... Maybe things may work out in your favour and I lose due to the numbers game or the fact that on the night I wasn't good enough... Then what? What will your deity reward you with for making the sacrifices in his name? You beat the Legacy champion and one of his cohorts gets a title shot despite having lost to me already? Is that the power you are happy to do the bidding of... A power who takes your sacrifices and offerings and rewards others instead of those who do his bidding?"
Looking at her bloodied palm, Alice smiles and like she did before her fight with Erin, she slowly drags her hand across her face, giving herself the crimson war paint.
"If you want to sacrifice me for nothing in return, I beg you, come take your best shot... Get me on that altar, drive the dagger into my heart, spill my blood, appease the power who has nothing for you but safe in the knowledge you are simply pawns there to do his bidding, nothing more than disposable and a distraction for his queen to come into play...."
Placing her bloodied hand down onto the table, leaving a bloody handprint on one of the 'reports' on the Jeckels, Alice looks to the camera like she were looking someone right in the eyes.
"You'll need your best shot... Because I don't do half measures... I know myself, I know you, I know Vincent Alejandro... I will not fail..."
