Inside the lobby at the offices of Wilkes Barre/Scranton Wrestling, it appears there is some kind of activity going on. There's a podium, a microphone, people with note pads, television and still cameras...
You know, if we didn't know any better, we'd swear someone was planning a press conference...
Well, indeed, that's what is going on. A press conference has been called in the lobby of the WBSW office. Members of the fourth estate (that'd be the media, the press for those of you less intelligent types) are milling around when everyone notices a long, black limousine pull up in front of the building.
And if there's a limo in Scranton, you gotta know that Extreme Impact Worldwide is in town...indeed, the rear doors open and "Stunning" Steven Gold emerges from the vehicle. Of course, he is ridiculously well-dressed...$5,000 Brooks Brother suit, $2,000 leather Italian shoes, even the sun is gleaming off the $20,000 diamond and gold Rolex watch, as well as the OWA InterGlobal Heavyweight Championship belt that is hanging over Gold's shoulder.
As the No. 1 contender to the WBSW champion, currently being worn by a man who car is worth less than Gold's ensemble, enters the lobby, he is flanked by the Northwest Express, "BadAss" Billy Sandow and "Ravishing" Ricky Moses. As the members of the media settle in, Gold takes to the podium positioning the InterGlobal title belt on the front for all to see.
Gold: "I'd like to thank the members of the media for being here today...my intent here is to make an announcement that will change the landscape of Wilkes Barre/Scranton Wrestling as only we at Extreme Impact Worldwide can do, and I will take a few questions.
Extreme Impact Worldwide is proud to announce that at the close of business on Monday, December 10, our company completed negotiations with the Oceania Wrestling Alliance, based in Sydney, Australia, for ownership and all rights therein to this title, the InterGlobal Heavyweight Championship. The deal that was signed by EIW president Adrian Slayer and OWA owner-CEO Richard Fitzmorris was for $1.5 million, putting EIW in control of the IG belt and all creative properties therein.
At this time, under the authority of the EIW board of directors and order of Mr. Slayer, I am here today to make the following offer to Mr. Alex Morgan, the president of the WBSW. Extreme Impact Worldwide is ready to relinquish all control of the InterGlobal title to the WBSW at no cost to this small, but quickly growing professional wrestling organization.
We are taking this action for two primary reasons...primarily, Mr. Slayer see the WBSW as the next great property to make a major move into the highly competitive world that is professional wrestling. Secondly, there has been talk among the players of the WBSW about having a secondary singles title in the organization, such as the WWE currently has with the Intercontinental or United States titles to the WWE or World titles, a belt that would signify its holder as the No. 1 contender to the WBSW championship.
We at EIW feel that the prestige and history behind the InterGlobal title would make it an appropriate property for the WBSW to make this belt part of the singles picture in this organization.
Now, as the current InterGlobal champion, I am prepared to surrender the title to Mr. Morgan and make it available to be won in a tournament of WBSW grapplers at an upcoming WBSW Live! show. The only, and I do mean only, condition that I place upon my end of the offer is that if Mr. Morgan accepts this offer, and arranges for an InterGlobal tournament, that my two associates with me here today, "BadAss" Billy Sandow and "Ravishing" Ricky Moses are part of the tournament bracket.
Like myself, both of these gentlemen have been IG champions during their time with the OWA, and both are worthy contenders at this time. So now the decision is in the court of Mr. Morgan -- Alex, we are making this offer at no cost to you...all you have to do is accept this gift from Extreme Impact and prepare a tournament to crown the first-ever WBSW InterGlobal champion, which will include my associates. I will take questions at this time...
Gentleman reporter: "Mr. Gold, some people who know a little about your brief history with the WBSW might not see this as the magnanimus gesture you are trying to make this look like. What would you say to those people?"
Gold: "Well, if that is true, so what? I understand that I'm not the most popular guy in the locker room among the fans of the WBSW, and I'm okay with that. As I have already stated, I am not here to make fans or having people love me...I am here to make money and earn titles, and the fact that I am the No. 1 contender to the WBSW title is proof that I am the baddest man in the building. Um, the young lady in the front row here..."
Lady reporter: "Mr. Gold, after what happened at the WBSW title match contract signing last week, there are those who feel your title match should be tossed out...why did you attack Gunnar Hughes, and have these two men with you attack him?
Gold: "Miss, were you watching the show? More importantly, have you seen the last few weeks around this place? I'm fascinated by the fact that I am the one being painted as the bad guy in this situation, when the truth of the matter is that Gunnar Hughes is the one who created this entire mess in the first place. He has been an insulting little...person, for lack of a cleaner term...towards me since the day I got here, and frankly, I believe it's because he knows that in a straight one-to-one showdown, he can't beat me and keep that title.
Gunnar Hughes got a very cheap win over me by taking a very cheap shot at me during our first match...the only way he could beat me was the attack me from behind. Well, I have always been one to handle my business, and when I attacked him a few weeks ago after a match, that was handling my business.
Now, Gunnar could have left it alone, he could have simply signed the contract and walked away to start preparing for our match, but no...again, he waited until I wasn't looking and hit me in the head with the WBSW title belt. Of course, I've seen a thousand Gunnar Hughes-types in this business....they know nothing about taking the honorable route, and I knew that Gunney was going to attack me...that's why I had my two associates waiting to cover my back, and as the entire WBSW world was witness to, Mr. Hughes found out that when it comes to gang warfare, he is nowhere when compared to "Stunning" Steven Gold, and when we get together for Gold-Hughes II, he'll be nothing without the WBSW title. Last question...
Reporter: "Mr. Gold, you mentioned some sort of deal that was being offered to other members of the WBSW to join your organization at last week's Live! show...any updates on that at this time?"
Gold: "No, nothing at this time, but allow me to once again mention what we're talking about. Extreme Impact Worldwide is the top company in the world when it comes to representing the men and women who compete in the game of professional wrestling, and we are always looking to expand. For that reason, I am once again offering a $2 MILLION DOLLAR SIGNING BONUS for any member of the WBSW who wishes to improve their lot in this business...sign with EIW, and we will make you richer and more successful than you can ever imagine. I will say that at this moment, there are a couple of guys in the back...MITCH THOMPSON, DAVID FRAGGLE, among others that we are considering entering into talks with to join us. Thank you for your time, and in closing, ALEX MORGAN, I'm waiting to hear from you about the future of the InterGlobal title."
