The scene opens with NAW new comer, Matt Bridges on his cell phone in his loft. He seems very excited.
“Thank you, er, boss. I appreciate the opportunity! Good bye. Yes. Yes. YES!”
Matt immediately calls someone else on his cell phone.
“Yeah, Larry. I’m signed. Officially on the roster… Yeah, I just got a phone call from the main boss, guy, dude, whatever. Alec Morrison… no… Alex Morrison… no wait. I forget his name, sounds like a good guy though… I know I need to learn peoples names, Larry. But you’re my agent! That’s what you’re for, brotha! And… woah, Larry man, don’t interrupt me, guy. I’m talking here... Apology accepted. So get this, I’m already booked for my first match. Can you believe that?!? I’m gonna be on TV in a couple of weekends!! Everyone’s gonna see me, my mom, my sister even Steven Spielberg. Something tells me he’ll be watching!… What? Is the guy tough? Who? Steven Spielberg? I haven’t seen him work out but I had a dream once where we were in the gym together and lets just say we got very sweaty together and… oh… the guy I’m facing on Meltdown? I don’t know, man. His name is… hang on a sec, I wrote it down somewhere…”
Matt digs through his mess of notes on his desk until he finds what he’s looking for.
“Got it! His name is Todd Morrison. Ha! That’s where I got Morrison from, this guy, see, I do remember names!” Taps his head. “… research? What research? … Ha! Come on, man. I don’t need to worry about this…” Looks at paper. “… Todd Morrison. This guy’s gonna be a complete push over! … How do I know? Let’s call it instinct. Remember the time we made a bet on what was going to be the bigger movie, Encino Man or Alien 3?… Who was right? Exactly, me! Instinct! Brendan Fraiser all the way! If only I were as talented as that man.” Scratches his chin and thinks. “Oh well. I’m not worried about ‘Todd’ that’s for sure. This guy, Alex, the boss man, he knows when he signed me he had a huge star on his hands. He won’t throw me to the wolves in my first night! Plus, I can handle wolves. Just like Liam Neeson in The Grey… He lived at the end of that movie, right? I don’t remember. Larry, just be prepared to watch me kick ass all night on Meltdown. It’s going to be quite a show, I’ll tell you that…. Cool, I’ll talk to you later. Just keep your phone lines open after my match on that Sunday. They’ll be a calling. See ya.”
Matt turns off his phone and sits down on his sofa. Puts his hands behind his head and looks at the ceiling imagining what his future will be, as the scene fades.”
