The scene opens up in the empty front parking lot of a large building in the city. The building looks to be recently renovated, as well as the lot with fresh blacktop and new painted parking spots. A limo is seen pulling into the view, and it pulls up to the curb in front of the building’s entrance. The view focuses on the limo as it comes to a stop, and after a few moments the driver gets out and walks around to the other side of the limo to open the back door. Two men step out, and as the camera view focuses on them they are recognized to be Marco Uribe and his associate Diego Martinez. Marco was recently one half of the tag team known as Los Conquistadores, but after a loss to David Fraggle on the last WBSW Live show before the brand change, both members were forced to unmask due to a match stipulation. Now on his own, Marco has brought in his friend Diego Martinez to help him move forward in the NAW. This week Diego will be tagging up with the NAW Champion Gunner Hughes to take on the team of the number one contender for the NAW Championship David Fraggle and the head of NAW security Mitch Thompson. Marco and Diego both look upward and take in the sight of the huge green neon sign that covers the front of the building above the entrance, which reads “Section 8 Nightclub.” The two walk to the front of the building and the driver closes the limo door behind them and returns to his seat in the front as they walk into the club. The camera follows the two through the front door and pans around a bit, showing the inside of the club. The setting in the main area is that of any ole’ regular nightclub; complete with a stage, bar area, sound system, and also a lounge area with large theatre type screen on the wall above it. On the screen a music video from a local rock band is playing, and in the middle of the room an attractive looking woman is seen singing and dancing along with the music with a pool stick in her hand as she gets ready to take a shot on the pool table. She’s dressed in jeans, boots, and a tight black shirt with the same Section 8 logo on the front of it that was on the sign out front. After a few moments she cracks the cue ball and sends a colored ball into the corner pocket with a flick of her pool stick, then walks around the other side of the table and glances up to see the two men standing inside the club. She greets them with a smile.
Woman: “Well hello there gentleman….what can I do for you.”
Marco and Diego both look around the inside of the large room, nodding and exchanging impressed looks before Marco responds to the woman.
Marco: “Bueno día señorita, we’re here to see the champ.”
The woman nods as if she was already expecting to see the two men walk through the door.
Woman: “Of course….he’s expecting you. Right this way.”
The woman motions towards the back of the room with her pool stick and starts to head off in that direction with the two men following her. They walk through a set of double doors, then down a hallway towards an elevator door. The woman hits the button on the wall when they arrive at the elevator, then she glances back at the two men as they wait for it to arrive.
Woman: “My name’s Ashley, I’m a business partner of Gunner’s. I’ll be helping him run this place once it opens.”
Just then a chime is heard as the elevator doors swing open. The trio step into the elevator along with the camera, and Ashley hits another button inside the elevator. The doors close, and after a few moments Marco and Diego both exchange smiles before Marco looks over at Ashley.
Marco: “So a business partner of the NAW champ eh? And what exactly type of business would that be?
The two men share a laugh, and Ashley smiles back them as she suddenly holds the end of the pool stick out to Marco’s crotch area and responds with a cocky laugh of her own.
Ashley: “This place needs somebody around here who can crunch numbers….and crunching stuff is something that I’m pretty good at. You want to see?”
Marco’s smile disappears and he slowly reaches down and pushes the pool stick away from his crotch.
Marco: “Whoa chica…I was only joking.”
The doors to the elevator then swing open and Ashley pulls the pool stick back and steps out to head down another hallway, motioning for the two men to follow her. They reach the end of the hallway and approach another set of double doors, and this time after walking through them they’re standing inside the office of Gunner Hughes. The view pans around a bit to show the surroundings; a fireplace and a leather couch off to one side, and a huge bay window that looks down into the lower level of the club on the other. In the back of the room sits Gunner’s desk and file cabinet with his plasma screen television mounted on the wall above it. Gunner is seen sitting at his desk facing away from the camera, leaning back with his feet up on the file cabinet and hands locked behind his head as he watches a video that’s playing on the television. The video is that of David Fraggle’s latest promo for the tag team match on Meltdown this week, and the camera view zooms in on the television as Fraggle is seen saying his last words.
David Fraggle: This is the start of a new journey for me and I’m going to see it through to the end. NAW you better be prepared for a new kind of madness that can only be caused by “The Very Good” David Fraggle. Gunner Hughes I’m coming for you and I’m going to take your NAW Championship Title very soon.
The promo ends and the screen on the television goes black, then turns to static. The camera view starts to zoom back out, showing Gunner continuing to stare at the blank screen. He remains silent, and after a few moments the view pans around to the side a bit to get a better look at him. Instead of the cocky looking grin that he usually has on his face when he’s scouting the competition, his eyes are closed, his head is tilted back, and his mouth is wide open. A light breathing sound is heard coming from him, and Marco’s voice is then heard whispering from off camera.
Marco: “You think he’s dead?”
Diego: “Nah amigo, he ain’t dead….he’s probably just sleeping.
After a few more seconds of waiting for a response from the champ, Ashley reluctantly speaks up with a loud voice.
Ashley: “Gunner. Diego and Marco are here to see you.”
At the sound of Ashley’s voice Gunner’s legs suddenly come up off of the file cabinet as he jumps up in his seat and snaps awake, looking around the room with a confused look on his face.
Gunner: “Huh? Is it over?”
Gunner notices his tag team partner for this week and his associate standing on the other side of his desk along with Ashley, and he rubs his eyes as he tries to act like he was watching the video of Fraggle promo the entire time.
Gunner: “Hey guys, I was just….doing some scouting for this week.
Ashley smiles at the two men as she motions to the two empty chairs that are sitting in front of Gunner’s desk. She then glances in Gunner’s direction before leaving the room.
Ashley: “If you guys need anything just buzz me.”
Ashley walks out the door and disappears as Diego and Marco sit down in the two empty chairs. Gunner picks up the remote and shuts the television off, then faces forward and rests his elbows on his desk as he begins to size up the two men sitting across from him. On one side there’s Marco Uribe, formerly known as Toro from the tag team the Los Conquistadores. They weren’t the most loved team with the fans, often using cheating tactics to win their matches. The last thing that Gunner wants is to do is go out to the ring and cheat in order to win, so Gunner wonders to himself if he may have bitten off more than he can chew by allowing this man to be at ringside in his corner this week on Meltdown, especially since he has an axe to grind with David Fraggle. But then again, sitting beside this man was the guy who would be competing as his official tag team partner. Not much is known about this guy yet, but his story is that he’s here in the NAW to show Marco the correct way of being a true professional wrestler. His analysis of the two men are then interrupted by the sound of Diego’s voice.
Diego: “So….what do you think amigo? What’s the game plan?”
Gunner smiles.
Gunner: “The game plan. You guys want to know what our game plan is going to be? Well for starters, what do you two know about David Fraggle and Mitch Thompson?”
Marco speaks up.
Marco: “Well, we know now that David Fraggle can put you to sleep without even stepping into a wrestling ring.”
Marco looks over and nudges Diego and they both laugh. Gunner shakes his head as he doesn’t seem to be impressed, but then he appears to lighten up as he leans back in his seat and crosses his arms.
Gunner: “Very funny. Forgive me if I have a short attention span when it comes to boring crap on television. I don’t know how things work in your country, but here in the good old USA we usually don’t tend to air something on television unless it’s actually interesting.”
Marco: “Is that right? Well then somebody better tell that to those kids on the Jersey Shore!”
Again Diego and Marco laugh again, and after a moment Gunner appears to start laughing along with them.
Gunner: “Yeah that’s pretty funny isn’t it? We’re all comedians now….is that it? Well I’m glad you two like jokes so much because I have good one for you. Did you hear the one about the guy who got his ass kicked and his mask ripped off his face two weeks ago by David Fraggle?”
Diego and Marco’s laughing both instantly come to a stop, and Gunner can tell that he just hit a nerve as Marco appears to get upset. Satisfied, he then continues on.
Gunner: “Good….now I see I have your attention.”
Marco: “I’m not finished with that gringo yet! He’s going to pay this week! We’re going to punish him!”
Gunner nods in approval.
Gunner: “Good, now that’s what I like to hear….now I know you’re motivated. You have an axe to grind with David Fraggle, and this week you will have a golden opportunity to get it done.…..after the match is over.”
Marco gets a confused look on his face.
Marco: “What are you talking about amigo? I’m going to be right there at ringside the entire time within arm’s reach of David Fraggle. I’m not waiting until the match is over…..I’m getting my revenge as soon as I have the chance!”
Marco starts to get worked up and Diego starts speak Spanish, appearing to be consoling him and trying to convince him not to get involved. Gunner attempts to interrupt them.
Gunner: “Excuse me gentleman.”
The arguing continues, and after a few moments Gunner leans over and pulls open the top drawer of the file cabinet. He reaches in and pulls out what appears to be a revolver, then pulls back the hammer and points it at the ceiling. He pulls the trigger and a loud shot echoes through the entire room. Diego and Marco both jump up and tumble backwards out of their seats. Gunner points the gun at Diego.
Gunner: “Are we finished now?”
Marco puts his hands out and gets a worried look in his eyes.
Marco: “Whoa esse…..settle down, what the hell is wrong with you?”
Gunner appears to get upset and he rolls his chair back and stands up to walk over to Marco, keeping the gun pointed at him the entire time.
Gunner: “What the hell is wrong with me? Are you trying to say that I have something wrong with me?”
Marco and Diego both start to look even more worried, and Diego tries to reason with Gunner as he points the gun at Marco.
Diego: “No man…he ain’t saying that all. Tell him Marco!”
Marco: “Yeah look….I think we may have gotten off on the wrong foot esse. We don’t want any trouble, we’re just here to meet up with you and talk strategy for this week’s tag team match against “The Very Good” David Fraggle and Mitch Thompson.”
The angry expression remains on Gunner’s face as he holds the gun out pointed at Marco’s chest. After a few seconds, he shakes his head.
Gunner: “You know what…..we tried that, and you two aren’t taking this seriously enough. So thanks, but no thanks….I’ll just fight David Fraggle and Mitch Thompson myself. You two are no longer needed.”
Gunner pulls the trigger and quickly pops off two shots at Marco, then points the gun over at Diego and pops off two more quick shots. The men both put their hands up and close their eyes to brace themselves, but after a few moments they hear Gunner laughing and they open their eyes. Gunner walks back over to his desk and sits back down in his seat, and both of the men glance at each other with confused looks on their faces. They both examine themselves for bullet holes, then they look up and see that there’s also no bullet hole in the ceiling where Gunner first fired the gun. They glance at Gunner, who is still laughing as he points the gun back at them again.
Gunner: “Training pistol. It’s for hunting dogs…it only shoot blanks. Looks pretty damn real though huh? I mean, the looks on your faces….”
Gunner holds his side as he laughs some more, and Marco gets furious and gets up to leave.
Marco: “Screw this! We’re not teaming up with this pendejo …he’s loco!”
Diego grabs him by the arm and tries to stop him, and Gunner also speaks up.
Gunner: “Alright, alright….I apologize Marco. I was only messing with you, calm down and have a seat. Enough games, let’s get back to talking business.”
Marco reluctantly sits back down in his seat, and Gunner puts the training pistol back in the file cabinet.
Gunner: “One thing you’re going to have to learn if you want to make it in the NAW, is to stop taking things so seriously and stop dwelling on your failures Marco. The last time you were in the ring you lost to David Fraggle and had your mask removed. I’m sure that in your country, as a lucha libre, you feel that you’ve been dishonored and it’s probably been digging at you all week hasn’t it? Knowing that the man who is responsible for all of that is still walking around the hallways of the NAW, and that there’s nothing you can do but wait for an opportunity to strike back……it has to be frustrating.”
Marco nods in agreement, and Gunner continues.
Gunner: “But just a minute ago when I had that gun pointed at you….you weren’t thinking about that at all were you?”
Marco shakes his head
Gunner: “That’s right, because at that moment David Fraggle beating you inside the ring and removing your mask didn’t seem so important did it?”
Marco: “No…not really.”
Gunner: “No, it didn’t….because you had bigger problems being pointed at you. Well from this point forward, I would suggest that you consider your NAW career in the same way. Whatever happened the last time you and Fraggle met is not important anymore, because you have moved forward and are ready to take on bigger challenges. Take a look at the hell I went through in my last title defense against Steven Yellow and his cronies. Week after week they tried to assault me, embarrass me, and bust me down until I cracked under the pressure and slipped off of my game. But as you can see…”
Gunner motions to the NAW Championship belt that’s sitting neatly folded up on his desk.
Gunner: “I stayed the course and I didn’t let them throw me off my game at all. Sure, I wanted to just get a baseball bat and break each one of their skinny little legs, but I knew that beating them inside the ring would be much sweeter. And now Marco, it’s you who is going to have to do the same thing this week. Me and your buddy Diego here, we have a match against Fraggle and Mitch Thompson, and for some reason management decided to allow you to be in our corner. I know the desire to get yourself involved and go after Fraggle is going to be huge, but you just have to be strong and remember our little discussion here. You see Marco, I’ve spent quite a while building my status to where it’s at today. I’m not only the current NAW Champion, but I’ve became the champion and I’ve remained the champion without needing to cheat or without needing to win the numbers game against my opponents.”
Marco looks like he’s unsure what to think of the whole situation, and after a few moments Diego speaks up and shows his confidence in Marco.
Diego: “Marco’s trying to change his ways, and he will do his best to stay out of our match. But you have to understand amigo, if Fraggle tries to provoke him…”
Gunner cuts him off.
Gunner: “You let me worry about David Fraggle. Now that Alex Morgan has named him the number one contender to the NAW Championship….he’s my problem, not Marco’s. I will be defending my title against him at the upcoming St. Valentine’s Day Massacre show and I plan to walk into that event with momentum on my side, but the last thing I want anybody saying is that I needed to use uneven odds in order to do that. So if Marco does decide to get involved before the match is over…..David Fraggle and the loss of his mask two weeks ago will be the least of his worries.”
Gunner pauses and glances over at Marco for a moment with a mean glare to be sure that he’s listening.
Gunner: “I want to win this match cleanly Marco, and if you know what’s good for you, you will stay out of it and just watch.”
Gunner then cracks an evil looking smile.
Gunner: “But that’s not saying that once me and Diego take care of our business and the match is over….that you can’t take care of yours.”
Marco slowly gets a smile on his face too and nods his head, appearing to start to understand Gunner’s point of view. Gunner then continues on as he turns and motions to the large television on the wall behind him.
Gunner: “Now, I trust you two both watched this video from Fraggle?”
Both men slowly nod their heads.
Gunner: “Good. Now I know it wasn’t the most exciting piece of footage…but overall it still showed that Fraggle is looking to better himself coming in to this match. I’m not sure how playing word games with Dr. Seuss or whoever the hell that fraud was that he was visiting is supposed to help him in a fight with me, but none the less it still shows that the man has motivation and is trying to rid himself of his demons.”
Confusion washes over Marco and Diego’s faces.
Diego: “His demons?”
Gunner: “Back before you two arrived in our promotion, David Fraggle was just a wrestling manager and he used to manage a man by the name of Judas. This guy Judas, he wasn’t just your average run of the mill wrestler….this guy was a god damned monster. David and Judas brutally ravaged the entire roster week after week, leaving broken and battered bodies in their path as David demanded a title shot for his client. There wasn’t a single person in this company who could stop them, not even the owner himself.”
Marco: “Well what happened?”
Gunner: “What happened was Judas finally met a beast who was much meaner then him…..a beast that would go on to not only beat Judas inside the ring, but also claim the title shot for himself and then cash it in at UWL’s Wrestlefest to become the next champion.”
Gunner pauses and smiles as he reaches over and pats the faceplate of the NAW title belt sitting in the desk next to him. He then continues on.
Gunner: “After an assault on Alex Morgan, Judas and David Fraggle were both fired for all of their actions against him and the rest of our roster leading up to that point, and Judas was never seen again. As you can see though, David managed to find his way back to our promotion and has decided to seek redemption by stepping in the ring himself this time. Pretty damned ballsy if you ask me.”
Diego: “Yeah but damn esse, those are some pretty serious demons. An assault on the owner? This dude sounds like a piece of garbage.”
Gunner nods his head.
Gunner: “Maybe he is. Or maybe he was just somebody who had lost his way, and has now seen a better path to take…..kind of like your friend here.”
Gunner motions to Marco.
Gunner: “Whatever the case, the fact remains that David Fraggle has earned his way back into our company and he’s redeemed himself as a NAW superstar without needing to use any of the filthy tactics that he and his associate were using as a crutch his first time through. Now our paths are meeting once again in the NAW, and this time without needing to rely on that crutch he’s going to be a much tougher challenge than before. That’s why Marco over there is going to stay out of this match on Meltdown and we’re going to keep it fair.….not only because David Fraggle deserves it, but also because history deserves it. Me and Fraggle, we still have unfinished business to attend to from our first meeting and at St. Valentine’s Day Massacre I’ll have the chance to close the chapter on that business once and for all. But the only way for me to do that is to leave no questions unanswered and beat him fair and square. I don’t want any “what-ifs” or “what could have beens.”
Diego and Marco both nod their heads, appearing to be on the same page as the champ….for now anyway.
Diego: “Well what about his tag team partner this week….Mitch Thompson? He looks pretty tough.”
Gunner laughs as he thinks back on his experience with Mitch Thompson.
Gunner: “Oh the man is tough, there’s no doubt about that. In my time with this wrestling promotion, I’ve seen that guy take more hits than a freaking piñata at one of your family reunions. See, one of the parts I left out about my little story about the rampage of Judas and David Fraggle is that their biggest victim every week was Mitch Thompson. Being the head of WBSW security, he was tasked by Alex Morgan with trying to maintain order and prevent them from destroying all of the WBSW’s superstars, but Mitch just couldn’t get the job done. David and Judas beat him like a rug each and every week, but he would just accept his orders and keep coming back for more, never deterred for a second. If there’s one thing I can tell you about Mitch Thompson, it’s that he’ll show up this weekend ready for a fight, I have zero doubt in my mind about that.”
Diego: “Yeah but will he be ready to fight us….or that gringo in his corner who was beating him down every week before?”
Again Gunner laughs and nods at Marco.
Gunner: “I think Marco here already knows the answer to that question doesn’t he? Mitch was right there to stop him from backing out on his match stipulation against Fraggle two weeks ago on Live, so you can bet your ass that he’ll be ready to play the part as Fraggle’s tag team partner this week. Whether they can stay on the same page throughout the entire match or not….that remains to be seen. What matters is that me and Diego need to be ready for a war. We need to be ready to take David Fraggle and Mitch Thompson to a level that they have never experienced before! We need to be ready to show those two that the biggest mistake either of them have ever made was to step inside a NAW ring against any of us!”
Gunner pounds his fist down on the desk and Diego and Marco both smile and get excited as Gunner’s words start to rile them up.
Diego: “Hell yeah amigo…I’m ready!!”
Marco: “Me too!! Where do we begin?”
Gunner: “With New York style protein shakes!”
Diego and Marco look a little confused about the shakes, but still excited. Gunner reaches out and hits a button on the telephone receiver sitting on the desk in front of him.
Gunner: “Ashley, can you mix us up three Long Island iced teas?”
After a few seconds, Ashley’s voice is heard coming through a speaker.
Ashley: “Sure Gunner, I’ll bring them right up.”
Gunner: “Thanks.”
Gunner leans back in his chair and after Diego settles down a bit he looks at Gunner.
Diego: “I don’t think I’ve ever had a New York style protein shake, what’s in it?”
Gunner: “Just vitamins…..all the best ones too.
Diego: ”That’s excellent.”
Gunner: “Yeah, they are excellent. Now, let’s talk some more strategy.”
The view slowly zooms out as the three resume talking and the scene slowly fades.
