Inside the offices of Todd Tanner Law Offices, “Mister Terrific” Scotty Blazer was sitting at a television screen, watching something. Todd Tanner comes into the room and waves a video tape in the air.
Todd: I just got an email from Alex telling me who your first opponent is.
Blazer: I know, I got the same one.
Todd: This is huge for us.
Blazer: My first match is always a big one.
Todd: Not just that, it’s who it’s against.
Blazer raises an eyebrow.
Blazer: You know him?
Todd: Yeah, I’ve been doing research on him.
Blazer turns his chair around to look at his friend.
Blazer: Excellent. What have you found out?
Todd: He was a first round pick of the Oakland Raiders and..
Blazer: No, he wasn’t.
Todd: Yeah, he was. I thought you were a Broncos fan, shouldn’t you know this?
Blazer: I am a Broncos fan, die hard, but you were looking up Sebastian Janikowski, I have a match against Sebastian Jankowski.
Todd: So, he didn’t kick a 63 yard long field goal?
Blazer shook his head as he turned back to the television.
Blazer: No, but he is still fairly impressive. Take a look at this.
Todd goes to stand behind him.
Todd: Is this from the last show?
Blazer: No, this is from…I think Polish Championship Wrestling, I think.
Todd: You think?
Blazer: I don’t speak Polish. Only, English, Spanish and Japanese.
Todd: I didn’t know you did that.
Blazer: Si.
Blazer points to the screen.
Blazer: Look how fluid he is, look how quick. It’s like the Doctor said, "Don't blink. Blink and you're dead. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink. Good luck."
Todd: You don’t think you can beat him?
Blazer: Of course I can beat him. I can beat anyone in that ring.
Todd: I thought you were supposed to show some hubris and humility.
Blazer: I’m a professional wrestler. You used football earlier, let’s keep going with that. When a team steps onto the field, they know they can win, right?
Todd: Of course, if you go into a game thinking you can win, you’re correct and if you go in thinking you can’t win, you are right.
Blazer: Exactly, both of us think we can win. The different between us is simple.
Todd: What’s that?
Blazer: See, Sebastian, for all of his admittedly impressive skills, has one flaw that I do not possess.
Todd: Well, it can’t be the fact that he is longwinded and has an elevated sense of self.
Blazer: Not at all, I possess those qualities in abundance.
Todd: Then what does he have that you do not..
Blazer: When he was young, he wanted to be a soccer player, that was his life’s ambition. But me, I’ve had one life’s goal since I was eight years old. For the last twenty years, every step I’ve taken in my professional life has lead me here. After my family died, I threw myself into this line of work. I spent two years in Japan putting rings together and learning from them, I spent a year and a half in Mexico, I’ve had a few matches in Ring of Honor, I’ve been everywhere in the last six years learning how to be the best wrestler I can be.
Blazer smiles slightly.
Blazer: He’s amazing in the ring, truly he is, but his heart isn’t there. Deep down in his heart, he knows that he wants to be in the World Cup scoring the winning goal. And that’s great. But deep down in my heart, I want to be in that ring, I want to give the fans someone they can look up to. I want to prove that I am the best wrestler in the world.
So I am going to do what I do best. I am going to go into that ring and offer him my hand in good faith. And then I’m going to beat him in the middle of the ring, clean and fair. And then he’ll know, like everyone soon will, that my name is “Mister Terrific” Scotty Blazer and I am going to help make this company into the best company in the world.
