The scene opens up inside the Section 8 nightclub, where we see NAW reporter Barry Lincoln sitting at a table across from the NAW Champion, Gunner Hughes. Gunner has the NAW Championship folded up on the table in front of him, and next to it also sits his newly won UWL International Championship. Barry smiles and acknowledges the camera.
Barry: “Hello everybody…I’m sitting here with the NAW Champion Gunner Hughes, who just last weekend represented the NAW in UWL’s Wrestlefest 2 and defeated champion Ryan Kidd to become the new UWL International Champion. Gunner first off….congratulations on bringing some UWL gold to the NAW. I seen you in action at Wrestlefest, and I have to say it was one hell of a match.”
Gunner: “Thanks Barry. Yeah, it was a brutal match for me, there’s no doubt about that. Ryan Kidd brought the fight just like he said he was going to do. My hat’s off to the guy, he was certainly a challenge…..but I just spent too much time in the gym training for that match and studying his wrestling style, so there’s no way I was planning to leave Wrestlefest empty handed.”
Barry: “Well speaking of the UWL, we have a UWL World Heavyweight Championship taking place at St. Valentine's Day Massacre, with Pat Gordon Jr defending his title against the challenger Leon Corella. You have a pick on who you think’s gonna walk away from match as the UWL Champion?”
Gunner appears to be in thought for a moment before responding.
Gunner: “I don’t know Barry, that’s a hard one. Both guys are pretty tough and anything can happen inside that ring, so I don’t think I could predict it one way or the other. It should be a great match either way, but to be honest I’m not really concerned with who wins that match. St. Valentine’s Day Massacre may be the stage where those two settle their dispute for the UWL Championship, and that’s fantastic for them. But for me? I’m more concerned with the grand finale…..where I defend this bad boy right here.”
Gunner picks up the NAW Championship from the table and holds it up to the camera for a brief moment, then he sets it back down and Barry continues.
Barry: “Alright, well my mistake. I just thought since…”
Gunner interrupts.
Gunner: “No, that’s fine Barry…..it’s your job to report the news and a match for the UWL World Heavyweight Championship is certainly big news. Pat Gordon and Leon Corella are two tough son of a bitches and I’m sure it’s going to be one hell of a match. But you have to understand that at St. Valentine’s Day Massacre I have my own job to do, and it’s a job that I take seriously. David Fraggle wants to end my reign as the NAW Champion, and I can’t let that happen. So I can’t waste my time worrying about what the rest of the people on this card are going to do, I just have to worry about what I need to do.”
Barry: “Alright, well fair enough. So let’s talk about David Fraggle and what you need to do at St. Valentine’s Day Massacre then. You two have encountered each other on numerous occasions in the ring, and now he’s the number one contender for the NAW Championship. He poses a serious threat to your title reign at St. Valentine’s Day Massacre wouldn’t you agree?”
Gunner nods his head in agreement with Barry.
Gunner: “Of course he does….along with everybody else in the NAW. As the champion, everybody is always a threat to my title. Not that I’m trying to look past David Fraggle or anything, because he is going to be one tough challenge to overcome, but look around the NAW these days. We have people coming in to the NAW every other day signing contracts….and any one of them could be the next person to be standing across the ring from me with their eyes on my title belt. So although my focus is on David Fraggle right now, in the meantime I still have to keep my eyes peeled for one of these rookies trying to make a name for themself.”
Barry: “Well Fraggle has reportedly been putting in a lot of hours of training going into this match, and some people are saying that this time the new and improved David Fraggle could have your number. What are your thoughts on that?”
Gunner smiles as thinks about how many times he’s heard that statement before in his short professional wrestling career.
Gunner: “Look Barry, every time I step into that ring against somebody there’s gonna be critics saying that the guy has my number. They have to say that, because that’s what they’re paid to do. They create doubt in people’s minds in order to help sell fights. Not to yank my own chain, but you’ve seen the warpath that I’ve been on since I became a NAW superstar. Does it look like anybody has my number?”
Barry: “Well number or not Gunner, David Fraggle has said on numerous occasions that he will be the next NAW Champion. The last time we seen him he was spending time with Michael Thunder for his last outing against you, so chances are we may see him again doing some training with him for this match.”
Gunner cringes at the thought of hearing Michael Thunder’s word reference therapy again.
Gunner: “Let’s hope not Barry, because watching that was like getting a damned tooth pulled at the dentist.”
Barry looks confused.
Barry: “Really? How so?”
Gunner: “Well it was so painful that I wanted it to be over with as quick as possible….and then when it finally was over, I needed some good drugs to forget that it ever happened.”
Gunner shakes his head as he continues.
Gunner: “No Barry, if Fraggle really wants to improve in the wrestling ring, he doesn’t need to spend time with some washed up has-beens practicing his Scrabble skills. Instead, the first thing he needs to do is quit lying to himself.”
Barry: “What do you mean?”
Gunner: “This David Fraggle that we’ve been seeing lately…this isn’t the real David Fraggle. Me and you Barry, we been with this company since the beginning and we both know who the real David Fraggle is don’t we?”
Gunner pauses and Barry remains silent, appearing to not quite understand what Gunner means yet.
Gunner: “When I walked in to this company and took my first look at David Fraggle, I saw a man who took what he wanted by force. He was somebody who didn’t just sit around and wait for things to happen…..he made things happen. Than man was dangerous, and he was a huge threat to this title belt and to the entire NAW. But where is that guy now?”
Gunner shrugs and looks to Barry for a response.
Barry: “So you’re saying that the David Fraggle of today is a different person than he was before?”
Gunner: “No, he’s the same person he’s always been….and that’s my point. I might have not have a whole lot of experience in the wrestling world, but one thing I do have experience in, is dealing with people. In my former line of work, I have dealt with many different types of characters; liars, cheaters, thieves…and many who claimed to be none of the above. So David Fraggle can walk around and act like he respects the rules and the fans all he wants, but I know that he’s still that same greedy and manipulative man who would do anything in his power to get what he wants. And deep down…..he knows it too. He may have tap danced to the tune of the boss to get himself back into the NAW, but sooner or later the real David Fraggle will emerge once again, and when that happens….that’s when he really becomes a threat.”
Barry: “You almost sound like you want the old David Fraggle back.”
Gunner: “Look, David Fraggle is David Fraggle. He’s been helping to keep this company alive since the day I walked in here back in September of last year, so on a personal level I have lots of respect for him. But on a business level……well, he’s the guy who wants to dethrone me as the NAW Champion so I have to do my job and stop him. How he attempts to go about doing his part, that’s his business. I just know that when I climb through those ropes and step into that ring, I have a full understanding of why I’m there and what’s motivating me. But Fraggle? I don’t think he’s figured that out yet. Sure, he wants to be the next NAW Champion….but what price is he willing to pay in order to do it? What’s he willing to sacrifice? Is he willing to step out of this fake shell that’s he’s created for himself and go back to being the beast that he was when he first laced up his wrestling boots in the NAW? Because I’ll tell you right now Barry, that’s the only chance he has at leaving St. Valentine’s Day Massacre with this title belt. If he’s planning to just walk into the Console Energy Center with this new nice guy attitude he’s had lately and go toe to toe with me in a straight up fight, then he’s already lost before the bell has even rung. He’s going to need to get dirty if he wants this title belt.”
Gunner glares into the camera at that statement, imagining to himself that Fraggle is sitting somewhere watching as he continues on.
Gunner: “I’m sure that none of this is news to Fraggle though, because I know that he still remembers what happened when he was booked to face me the last time. He watched from the outside of the ring as I stretched his tag team partner into a pretzel, and there wasn’t a damned thing he could do about it. So hopefully for his sake he realizes that the gameplan that he brought with him to that last match was useless, and if he tries to bring that same plan to this match it’s only going to end worse for him. This time Mitch Thompson won’t be there to act as the scapegoat.”
Barry: “You said that if David Fraggle wants to take your title belt, he’s going to have to get dirty. So with that said, how dirty do you plan to get in order to keep it?”
Gunner laughs.
Gunner: “So far I haven’t had to fight very dirty in the NAW, I’ve been fortunate enough to just be able to maintain with these bad boys right here….”
He holds up his balled fists for a moment.
Gunner: “Make no mistake though, I may be a professional wrestler by contract….but I’m a fighter by instinct. I do whatever I need to do in order to win a fight, and that’s all there is to it. I’d love to sit here and tell you that I’m a man who always plays by a set of rules….but I can’t. Rules are new to me, and it’s been sheer luck that I’ve been able to abide by the ones in the NAW for this long. The fans might have liked what they’ve seen from me so far because I’ve been able to stay within the boundaries of the rules in our company, but that’s not because I’ve set limits on what I would do in order to win a fight, it’s just because there hasn’t been anybody who has taken me to that level yet. Steven Yellow, he was about the closest to pushing me over that line, but it never had to come to that because after our last match he tucked his tail between his legs and ran away like a little puppy who just got swatted with a newspaper. So you see Barry, just because everybody has this picture painted of me being some champion who fights for honor in the NAW, that doesn’t mean I’m going to always play the part. I will surely try to, but I’m an emotional beast just like every other man and when I get pissed, people are going to get hurt. Maybe the fans will find it entertaining and cheer for me, or maybe they’ll find it cold and boo me. Either way, rules don’t play much into that notion as far as I’m concerned. If I want somebody taken out, it’s happening one way or another.”
Barry: “Well at St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, you get an opportunity to “take out” the man who is breathing down your neck to become the next NAW Champion. Before we end this, you have any final thoughts for the challenger?”
The view zooms in on Gunner as he begins to respond.
Gunner: “All I have to say is, be prepared David Fraggle….”
The view zooms in and focuses more on his face as he glares into the camera lens and continues.
Gunner: “Be prepared to step into my world at St. Valentine’s Day Massacre….and be prepared for it to end in defeat. Because just as I’ve proven time and time again inside that ring…”
He picks up both of his title belts from the table and holds them up to the camera.
Gunner: “Anybody who steps into my world, steps back out of it a loser.”
An evil smile forms across his lips as he lowers his title belts.
Gunner: “See you soon Fraggle.”
The scene fades.
Barry: “Hello everybody…I’m sitting here with the NAW Champion Gunner Hughes, who just last weekend represented the NAW in UWL’s Wrestlefest 2 and defeated champion Ryan Kidd to become the new UWL International Champion.
