The scene opens up, and a woman is seen sitting at a table in a restaurant. She’s dressed for business, and she has a small briefcase sitting on the floor next to her feet. She takes a sip out of the glass of red liquid that she has in her hand, and then she sets it down and looks at her cellphone; appearing to be waiting for somebody. After a few more moments Gunner Hughes, the WBSW World heavyweight Champion, is seen walking into the dining area and he heads towards her table as she sets the phone down on the table and stands up to wave at him. Upon closer examination, the woman is recognized to be Victoria Frost, wrestling manager and the same woman who attempted to proposition Gunner last week into signing a contract with her. Gunner takes his seat at her table, dressed in worn jeans and his biker jacket with a black signature T underneath, and the waiter is right there with a menu and a smile.
Waiter: “Here’s your menu sir, tonight’s special is Bourbon Street Asparagus Spears….can I start you off with something to drink?”
Gunner responds as he opens the menu and begins to look it over.
Gunner: “Yeah I’ll take a Jack and Coke and two lemon drops.”
The waiter looks back at Gunner and Victoria with a confused look on his face, and Victoria leans forward and mutters to Gunner.
Victoria “Gunner, they don’t serve alcohol here.”
Just then as he continues to browse the menu, Gunner realizes that he’s sitting inside a vegetarian restaurant. He looks back up at Victoria, realizing that none of the entrées on the menu sound like anything that he would eat, and he closes it and sets it down in front of him.
Gunner: “I’ll just take a water….and I don’t suppose you guys have steak here do you?”
He laughs, but he can already tell by the looks in both her and the waiter’s eyes that this wasn’t the first time that they’ve heard that joke being made in this restaurant, so he responds before they can even answer him.
Gunner: “You know what….I’m not even hungry anyway. Just the water will be fine for now.”
The waiter takes the menu and hurries off and Victoria smiles at Gunner, appearing to be amused by his uneasiness. He catches on to her, and frowns at her as he crosses his arms.
Gunner: “What is the hell kind of place is this anyway? You ever heard of just getting coffee or something?”
Victoria: “Coffee? You actually drink that poison?”
Gunner: “Actually, no I don’t…but you get my point. This isn’t really my type of place. I’m more of a burger and beer kind of guy….not, whatever the hell these people are eating.”
Gunner looks around and sees a posh looking couple sitting at a nearby table staring at him and whispering to each other. He flashes them back a mean stare of his own.
Gunner: “What in the hell are you two looking at?”
The couple quickly goes back to eating their meal, and Victoria turns and apologizes to them before attempting to calm Gunner down.
Victoria: “Take it easy Gunner… they’re not used to seeing somebody as “rough” as you walk in here. But myself, I eat here all the time and it’s very healthy. Anyway, I didn’t ask you to meet me here to discuss my eating habits; I wanted to pick up where we left off the other day in the hallway. I have a package for you.”
Gunner laughs at the innuendo as the waiter brings his water and Victoria another drink. After he walks away, Gunner leans forward and smiles at Victoria.
Gunner: “Shouldn’t I be the one saying that to you?”
Victoria: “Very funny. Here you go.”
She hands Gunner a small envelope. He looks at it reluctantly, but eventually takes it and after opening it he produces a few sheets of folded paper and a flash drive. He holds the flash drive up and looks across the table
Gunner: “So what’s this?”
Victoria: “That flash drive contains information on your next opponent, Steven Gold. It’s quite a few of his matches from the OWA, as well as some of his college wrestling work.”
Gunner smiles again, amused that she thinks she can help him with his match against Gold. He sets the flash drive down on the table and turns his attention towards the paperwork, the reason he was invited to this meeting in the first place.
Gunner: “I appreciate the offer, but I can do my own scouting. Do you really think I haven’t already sat down and took a good look at my next opponent?”
Victoria: “Of course I figured you’ve already been scouting Gold. I just figured you could always use more info.”
Gunner then proceeds to unfold the thin stack of paper and begins to read the top one over. He glances up at Victoria, an interested look in his eyes.
Gunner: “Is this what I think it is?”
Victoria smiles and nods her head, then she leans back in her seat and sips her drink again as he watches Gunner read the paper from top to bottom. She can tell by the interested look in his eyes that he was liking what he was reading.
Gunner: “And all those zeros are legit?”
Again Victoria nods her head.
Victoria: “As legit as any other money you’ve ever made.”
Gunner laughs at her comment as he reflects back to the life he led before walking into the WBSW, knowing that her statement wasn’t saying much. But perhaps she didn’t know that yet. In any case, he continues reading and then flips to the next sheet of paper. He gets a puzzled look on his face and holds it out to Victoria.
Gunner: “You can’t be serious?”
Victoria takes the paper from him and glances at it, then gives it back to him.
Victoria: “That’s just hypothetical . You’re the WBSW World Heavyweight Champion….Steven Gold is the OWA IG championship…..just imagine it! He’s already acknowledged the title versus title match, and as you can see on that document, the sponsors are already eating it right up. Win or lose…you would walk away a very wealthy man.”
Gunner appears to be in thought for a few moments, but then he slowly folds the second piece of paper back up, picks up the flash drive, and places them all back into the envelope. He then puts it on the table in front of Victoria.
Gunner: “Look, I understand where you’re coming from, and I appreciate you trying to “help me get rich. But before we go any further in our business, that is IF we go any further in our business…..you need to know a few things about me. First off, flashing dollar signs in front of my eyes will not get you very far with me. Sure, you might capture my attention for a brief moment, but in the end I will always walk out to that ring and do what I do for the love of a good fight, and nothing more. If the fans want cheer for me, that’s fine with me. If sponsors and wrestling promoters want to pay…then that’s fine with me too. But money will never motivate me, so don’t ever forget that.”
Victoria: “Alright…point taken.”
Gunner: “Oh I’m not finished yet, because there’s one more point that I want to get across too. See, we’ve got people like Steven Gold and John Tucker on our WBSW roster who think that creating an imaginary title belt for themselves will make themselves look like legit contenders in the WBSW. John Tucker and his make believe Overweight Championship, well…you seen how that worked out for him last week didn’t you? And as far as Steven Gold and that Interglobal title belt that he’s been walking around with….that thing is nothing but a souvenir from his old wrestling company. If it had any worth to it, he’d be there defending it right now instead of slobbering over mine. But if he really wants a chance at my world title, then that’s fine with me. I’ll fight him or anybody else who wants a shot...I never turn down a fight. But as far as that piece of scrap metal that he’s been carrying around his waist….I have zero interest in that thing. I am a WBSW wrestler, and I always wrestle under the WBSW banner. I have no interest in relics from another organization”
Victoria: “Ok, well you do know that Steven Gold is a very different beast than John Tucker right? I mean on one hand you have a man pretending to be the world overweight champion, and on the other you have a man who has actually competed and earned his championship title. And although that said title belt might not hold very much value in the WBSW in your eyes, it is still a sanctioned title belt from another organization and he is a legit champion.
Gunner stares across the table at her with a cocky grin as he picks up his water and takes a drink. He then sets the glass down on the table and slides his chair out.
Gunner: “Analyze it however you want to, but the fact is…..in the WBSW there is only one true champion and you’re looking at him. Steven Gold can walk around and pretend to be a champion all he wants to, but this week on Live when that bell sounds….pretend time will be over. There’s a reason I’m the world champion in the WBSW, and Steven is going to find that out the hard way.”
He stands up and pushes his chair back in.
Gunner: “Enjoy your meal Vicky. I’ll be in touch.”
He walks away and the view zooms in on a smiling Victoria as the scene fades.
Waiter: “Here’s your menu sir, tonight’s special is Bourbon Street Asparagus Spears….can I start you off with something to drink?”
