The scene opens up on board a Ferretti custom yacht as it’s anchored in the ocean in an unknown location. The view pans around a bit, showing the leather upholstered seats that wrap around both sides, and a large stereo system that’s mounted into a side wall. The view moves up a small staircase to the upper deck of the large vessel to show the empty captains seat and view through the windshield. The deck is all lit up, and a large GPS screen is set into the deck in front of the seat. The camera focuses on a mount that’s attached to the top of the boat’s dashboard, and the camera operator reaches forward and sets the camera into the mount. The view from the camera then shows the horizon, and the sight of land off in the distance. The boat’s engine fires up, after a few moments the camera shakes a little bit then turns 180 degrees to reveal Gunner Hughes sitting in the captain’s seat. He’s staring out into the horizon with a purpose and he has his cellphone pressed to his ear. After a few moments, some muffled talking is heard coming from the cellphone and Gunner responds.
Gunner: “There was a….minor complication, but I think you’ll be satisfied.”
More muffled talking is heard.
Gunner: “We’ll talk when I get there….and I have cargo . Have your guys ready on the dock.”
Gunner hits a button on the phone to end his call, and then he flips the phone shut and begins to fumble with the boat’s controls. The boat rocks a little bit, but eventually it starts to move and Gunner looks out into the horizon with a purpose. He steadies the boat and hits the cruise control button, and then he relaxes and acknowledges the camera with a smile.
Gunner: ”As you’ve probably already guessed….this isn’t my boat. It’s an interesting story, but one to be told at a different time. Right now I want to talk about the story that is my WBSW career, and the new fight that I have ahead of me this week on Live. The last time the WBSW seen me inside a wrestling ring, I walked out there and I faced a man known as the “Overweight Champion” John Tucker. He put up one hell of a fight, and he had hopes of defeating a WBSW World Champion for a second time…..but unfortunately for him I don’t fall as easy as Hale Collins did. In the end, John Tucker was humbled, and he was forced to realize that his championship run in the WBSW was all but imaginary. And now here I am again this week, set to face another man who believes that he’s a champion in the WBSW. This new chump by the name of Steven Gold, in his world he seems to be some great champion from another promotion. In his world he seems to think that wearing a title belt with no meaning in the WBSW will get him somewhere in our company.”
Gunner smiles with a satisfying, cocky grin.
Gunner: “But unfortunately for Steven Gold…eventually he’s going to have to leave that fairy tale world that he’s been living in and step into the real world…my world…the world of the WBSW Heavyweight Champion. He’s already been living the fantasy ever since this match was signed, imagining what it would be like to walk in the shoes of the heavyweight champion. I mean hell, he’s even settling for my leftovers in Victoria Frost as his new wrestling manager….just eating up the scraps that I leave behind.
He laughs, then looks into the camera as if he’s talking right to Gold.
Gunner: “Come on Steven…do you really think that conversing with people who I refuse to do business with is going to somehow move you any higher up the WBSW ladder? It’s actually kind of a desperate move on your part, but then again…In your world you’re actually relevant in the WBSW so I’d imagine that you think you actually have bargaining power. But see Steven, if you had any clue what type of man you were up against, you wouldn’t be wasting your time chasing my leftovers, and instead you’d be preparing for the biggest fight of your life. I know that you think that you have me pegged Steven, and you think you know what I’m all about, but I can assure you that there’s much more than meets the eye with me. You see, I’m not just some guy who left Portland and came to the WBSW to become a professional wrestler. The story of my life has taken many twists and turns, and the roads that I’ve traveled to get to where I’m at today have been scattered with roadblocks and detours. But amidst those challenges I have always risen up to the occasion, and in turn have excelled at being a very effective problem solver in my life. Hell, even right now I’m returning this vessel to it’s rightful owner, a dangerous job that many would have turned their backs to. But not me. For years now, I have been helping people with their problems in life. Whether it’s money owed, a property repossession like this one, personal security, or just an old fashion ass whipping to send somebody a message……I have always been the man to talk to. And that’s because when I set out to accomplish something, I produce results. So when it came to stepping inside that WBSW ring and taking care of business, it just came naturally. When I first arrived in the WBSW and declared that I would beat the head of WBSW security when placed against him in a match, that’s exactly what happened. When I said that I would go head to head with the monster Judas Fraggle and end his assault on the WBSW roster….that also happened. And when I said I was going to walk into Wrestlefest and beat Hale Collins to leave as the next WBSW World Heavyweight Champion, guess what else happened?”
He laughs again and nods his head in approval as his mind briefly switches to the WBSW World Heavyweight Championship that’s resting in his training room back at home. He then re-focuses on the task at hand and continues on.
Gunner: “So if you think you have any clue what so ever what kind of threat I bring to the table Steven Gold, you are sorely mistaken. Fighting is something that lives in my blood, and no matter how hard I try to ignore it, it will never leave me. And to be perfectly honest, I would never want to ignore it. That’s one of the reason’s I found the WBSW, to fuel my desire to fight. People like you Steven, people with a false sense of entitlement, I have met more of you than I can count in my lifetime and they have always thought themselves untouchable. But in the WBSW, I get to silence those types of people. I get to humble them, and bring them back down to earth with the rest of us. And that’s exactly what’s going to happen this week on Live when we meet in the center of that ring. Like I said before, when that bell rings you’re going to find out real fast what a real champion looks like. And when it’s all over Steven Gold, you can crawl back to that hole that you came from with your tail tucked between your legs and you can take your unwanted title belt with you.”
Gunner reaches down and hits a button on the side of the throttle to turn off the cruise control, then he slows the boat down a bit as he spots a few sail boats gliding through his intended path in the distance. At the same time, he appears to be pondering his last words as he continues on.
Gunner: “It’s not that I think you’re Interglobal title belt isn’t legit Steven, because somewhere I’m sure that it is. That place just isn’t in the WBSW. The fans of the WBSW watched as Hale Collins and Invertigo went to war inside the ring fighting over the WBSW World Heavyweight Championship. And then they watched some more as I fought my way through a gauntlet of challengers to earn my spot at Wrestlefest and then went on to beat Hale Collins and leave as the next WBSW World Heavyweight Champion. So you see Steven, the title belt that I have actually has some worth in our company. When I walk through the hallway backstage wearing that title belt, people look at that strap and they know that blood and sweat has been shed in the name of that title belt. They know that whoever is wearing that title belt is among the best in our company. But yours Steven, your title is nothing but a myth….valuable only to the man who wears it. You can try all you want to make yourself look like my equal in this company, but as long it’s you who is looking up the ladder at me, you have nothing that I need. I mean me as the OWA IG Champion?”
He shakes his head in disgust.
Gunner: “Please…who’s even heard of the OWA? And if the OWA is so good, then why aren’t you there defending your title belt right now? I mean, you’ve been going on and on about how I’m not a “world” champion, but here you are holding a title belt from another organization and you’re not even there to defend it? What kind of promotion just lets one of their champions walk off and compete elsewhere, even offering up shots at their title belt in exchange for favors?”
He laughs and shakes his head again.
Gunner: “I’ll tell you what kind of promotion…a second rate dump. Or maybe I have it all wrong. Maybe the OWA doesn’t even exist anymore, and you’re just some washed up ex-champion who is trying to cling to his glory days by dusting off a title belt that’s not even active. Either way Steven, spare me all the talk about your title belt from now on because obviously you’re the only one who cares about it. Well maybe you and a certain wrestling manager who’s looking for a meal ticket. But judging by what I seen in your last promo…she’s thinks she’s already found one hasn’t she? Well I sure hope she doesn’t have a very big appetite, because her meal ticket is about to get eaten.”
The boat skips over a few waves, and Gunner tightens his grasp on the helm as he gets lost in his thoughts for a moment. He starts to think about the first statement he made when he became the WBSW World Champion….when he said he was going to put the “World” in the WBSW World Heavyweight Championship. Neither Steven Gold nor his lackey from the OWA could figure out what he meant by that statement, and that was exactly the way he liked it. But he got the thumbs up from the boss man, so now maybe it was time to put the plans in motion? In any case, he has a challenge to deal with first, and a big one at that. Somebody is threatening his title status, and although Gunner question’s the man’s championship status in his respective organization, he knows that here in the WBSW he’s already made an impact with a very impressive debut against two other talented WBSW superstars. Steven Gold has made himself known, and now he’s been talking a good game all week. Gunner knows that it will take one hell of a beating to silence this challenger, and this week on Live he’ll have the means to deliver it to him. An evil smile forms across his lips and he relaxes his grip and continues on.
Gunner: “All trash talking aside Steven, I’m not ignorant enough to dismiss you as an easy fight or somebody who doesn’t pose a threat to my title belt. In fact, the truth is….as soon as I seen you walk through the door and sign a WBSW contract I knew this fight was bound to happen more sooner than later. Me and you, although we clearly come from different backgrounds…we both still possess that killer instinct that it takes to excel in the wrestling business. You take a look around the rest of the WBSW, and it’s not hard to spot wrestlers who are unmotivated, just sitting there taking up space on our roster. But people like myself, David Fraggle, Alex Stryker, even that goofy bastard John Tucker….the WBSW thrives from people like us. When the fans see any of our names on a WBSW card, they know that one way or another they’re going to get their money’s worth. And despite what I’ve said about you, I have a feeling that you will be another name added to that list as well Steven. You see, when I made that statement last week about putting the “world” in the WBSW World Heavyweight Championship, that’s exactly what I intend to do. I want the WBSW World Title belt to become the most prestigious title in the entire wrestling industry. I want the WBSW to be mentioned as one of the greatest wrestling promotions on the planet, and to accomplish that the first step will be to expose the WBSW to the entire world. Steven Gold, you want to place a limitation on our success because we’re regionally located, but I say that doesn’t mean a damned thing in the grand scheme of things. Companies like ours are how the industry separates the gladiators who climb through those ropes for the love of the competition from the posers who are just looking for a fat paycheck. And after seeing you meet with Victoria Frost this week and accept her offer so quickly Steven….you might want to ask yourself which one of these individuals you are the next time you look at yourself in the mirror.”
Gunner slows the boat down as land is seen in the close distance and some radio chatter is starting to be heard over the radio coming from the small harbor. He reaches down and turns the volume down on the radio as he continues on.
Gunner: “Whatever the case is Steven, all questions will be answered this week on Live. We will find out of you are the champion that you say you are, and you’ll find out just how tough a “regional” champion can be.”
Gunner slows the boat down more, and a dock can be seen in the distance with several armed men standing on it. They wave Gunner towards them as he slowly approaches. He pulls the boat to a stop next to the dock and a man in a white suit is seen among the armed men. He has slicked back hair and a cigar in his mouth, and he’s shouting at his men in Spanish as Gunner gives him a thumbs up through the side window. The men board the boat and Gunner removes the camera from of the mount and heads towards the back He gets to the back deck and the man in the white suit is standing on the dock looking at him with a confused expression on his face.
Man: "Hey, qué diablos está pasando? Where’s my boat?”
Gunner: “Relax…this is your boat. He didn’t have the money. This is a down payment, and a pretty damned nice one if I do say so myself. This is worth ten times as much as the one I left in."
The man gets upset and starts to curse in Spanish as his men search the boat for anything of interest. He then turns back to Gunner.
Man: “You should have broken his legs hombre, He’s into me for much more than this boat is worth.”
Gunner: ”And then what? How the hell is he supposed to get your money with broken legs?”
The man appears to be thinking about the question.
Gunner: "Relax, you’ve got some collateral. Just take a look downstairs inside the hull."
Gunner kicks a door that leads downstairs into the hull, and the man opens it and takes a few steps down to peek inside. He returns with a shocked look on his face, which then turns into a smile.
Man: “Mi dios, is that what I think it is?"
Gunner nods his head.
Gunner: ”Indeed, and I’m sure he’s gonna want it back. Like I said….you’ll have your money.”
The man shakes Gunner’s hand and motion s to the camera, and Gunner explains.
Gunner: ”It was on the boat, I’m keeping it as a souvenir.”
The man laughs and shakes Gunner’s hand again, and Gunner nods at him as he starts to head up the dock.
Gunner: ”We’ll be in touch.”
Gunner heads up the dock, and then turns the camera and stares in to it.
Gunner: ”My work is done here, which leaves me with nothing but time to prepare for Live. Steven Gold, you may be expecting a wrestling match…but it’s a fight that you’re going to get instead. You want to walk into our company and declare yourself a champion? Well that’s going to cost you….
He holds the camera up and glares into it.
Gunner: “And this week on Live….Gunner Hughes is coming to collect!”
The scene turns to static and fades to black.
Gunner: “There was a….minor complication, but I think you’ll be satisfied.”
More muffled talking is heard.
Gunner: “We’ll talk when I get there….and I have cargo . Have your guys ready on the dock.”
