The scene opens up and we see Barry Lincoln walking through the backstage hallway. Barry comes to a door in the hallway and the camera view pans around behind him to reveal the nameplate on it:
Barry knocks.
Luke? It's Barry. I talked to you earlier on the phone and you said I could come by and get a few words from you concerning your match against La Diva on Heatwave.
After a few moments a voice is heard calling from the other side.
"Yeah, it's open"
Barry opens the door and steps through, only to be greeted by a beer bottle smashing against the wall next to him. The bottle breaks into pieces and they scatter among the floor next to a trashcan. The camera pans around again to show Luke Savage propped in a seat in front of his locker, an open case of beer sitting on the floor next to him. Luke looks up and apologizes to Barry.
"Sorry Barry...that was a terrible shot. Guess that's why I'm a fighter and not a basketball player."
Barry smiles and nods at the case of beer on the floor.
"Not exactly the type of workout I expected you'd be doing when you told me that you had some training to do this evening."
Luke gets a puzzled expression on his face.
"Trainin'? Is that what I said? Well I meant drinkin'...that's what I have to do tonight. Plenty of drinkin'."
Luke shoves his hand inside the case and pulls out another beer. He twists the cap off and downs half of it as Barry watches on with a look of concern.
"Well Luke, are you sure that this is the most effective way of training for your match against La Diva?"
Luke holds out the beer bottle and looks at it for a moment, appearing to realize that Barry might just have a point.
"You know what Barry, you're probably right. I mean what's this beer...like 5% alcohol? I'm gonna have to drink a whole bunch of these to get to where I need to be. I should probably get me a bottle of whiskey instead."
Barry frowns.
"That's not what I was getting at Luke. What I mean is, do you really think that sitting here and drinking alcohol is a good way to prepare for a wrestling match against somebody as talented as La Diva. I mean, shouldn't you be in the gym or something?"
Luke laughs before downing the rest of his beer. He then hands the empty bottle to Barry afterward.
"You mind?"
Barry takes the bottle and tosses it into the garbage can. Luke nods his head in approval and smiles at Barry as he grabs another beer.
"Nice shot. Anyway, to answer your question...there are many ways to prepare for a fight. Some guys like to go to the gym and pump iron. Some guys like to head on up to the mountains and jog in the high altitude. And some guys just like to sit back and fuel themselves for the battle. I'm that third type of guy Barry.
Luke tilts the beer back and again takes a long swig before smiling back at Barry. Barry just shakes his head.
"Well to each their own I guess. But how do you think your cousin would feel seeing you preparing for a match this way?"
Luke stops laughing and slowly gets a serious look in his eyes as he glares at Barry. Barry has obviously hit a sore spot.
"Well it don't really matter what my cousin thinks does it? He ain't here no more. In fact, he ain't anywhere anymore. That sumbitch made a god damned disappearin' act and now I'm sittin' here in the NAW cleanin' up the mess of crap that he left behind."
Barry looks both confused and interested all at the same time.
"What do you mean? What mess?"
"What mess? Take a look around Barry. Teddy recruited me to help him complete a mission...to bring order to the NAW...and he left before that mission was accomplished. He gave up on that mission."
"Well what about you Luke? Have you also given up on that mission?"
Luke scoffs at Barry's question and shakes his head.
"That mission was never mine in the first place. I could have given a rat's ass about order bein' maintained in the NAW. But Teddy...he made it look like that was his one and only goal and I'll be damned if I wasn't gonna stick by my kin and help him...regardless of whether I thought it was a good plan or not. But as the weeks went on we made fools of ourselves trying to do the "right thing" by helpin' others in this company. And what were we gettin' in return for our loyalty to the NAW? Not a damned thing. We busted our asses tryin' to play nice while meanwhile all of the biggest opportunities went to others who were bold enough to just take what they wanted instead of followin' rules. Teddy couldn't see it, not even when it was smackin' him right in the face. But me? Hell I caught on to the way things work around here as soon as I walked through the door. I even tried explainin' it to Teddy but he wasn't wantin' to hear it. Either that, or he just didn't care to hear it. He's always had too much hope. It's his kryptonyte. But me, I'm a little more familiar with the way the world really works...and with the way the NAW really works. Teddy might have tucked tail and ran away because of his failures, but me..."
Luke laughs.
"I choose to make lemonade. Or maybe lemon vodka or somethin' like that. In any case, you get my point Barry."
Barry nods his head
"Barely...but I do get it I think. So anyway...La Diva, your opponent for Heatwave. What's your take on her as an opponent? Have you spotted any weaknesses in her that you're planning to exploit?"
Luke shrugs his shoulders.
Luke: I'm not really the scoutin' kind of guy. I ain't gonna sit back and watch footage of my opponent's past wrestlin' matches, or find out what they ate for dinner, or what color socks they're wearin' to the ring...that's all just too borin' for me. Besides, with me it's pretty much always the same gameplan no matter who my opponent is...just get inside the ring and start throwin' bombs. Predictable? Maybe. But effective? Definitely. Now you can look at that as a good thing or a bad thing, but either way everybody knows that when they come to watch Luke Savage fight it's gonna be a war! So now with that said, you want to know what my take on La Diva is? Well from what I seen she's just another skirt tryin' to make it in what used to be a men's only kind of world. My hat's off to her. Chicks are tough as nails these days Barry so who knows what she's capable of on a good night. Thing is, we ain't gonna find out at Heatwave because she ain't gonna have a good night when she faces me. She's gonna have a bad night. Perhaps the worst night of her NAW career.
Again Barry glances at the case of beer on the floor as he replies.
"Well I can assure you that La Diva is well prepared for this fight, are you sure you can say the same...considering that case of beer is almost gone?"
Luke looks down at the case and notices that Barry is right, only a couple of beers remain. He glances back up at Barry.
"You're right Barry, guess it's bout' time for a beer run. Or should I say a fuel run? Because like I already said before...this here is my fuel Barry. Fuel that will help power the beatdown that I have ready for La Diva at Heatwave."
Luke and Barry both stand up and Barry offers Luke a handshake before he leaves.
"Well good luck Luke, and I wish you well at Heatwave. And be safe, try not to over fuel yourself too much tonight ok?"
Luke accepts the handshake and pats Barry on the back.
"Thanks Barry I appreciate the support. And don't worry about me...I'm a professional. I barely even have a buzz. Now where in the heck did I park that spaceship?
Barry's eyes widen and Luke starts laughing.
"Just kidding Barry...just kidding. See you at Heatwave."
Luke walks out of the locker room and the scene fades.
