The scene opens up in a calm night. The camera shows a clear, star filled sky. The starlight shines bright in the endless skies. The camera moves back and than lower, displaying a young man that holds his head high, looking, lost in thoughts, at the night sky.
It´s Vagabond
Look at them, shining so bright in the skies. They shine and send their light billions of years away. That very light crosses the cosmos to reach this tiny planet earth. They seem irremovable objects that adorn the galaxies. Been there for billions and billions of years. Who knows how many stories they can tell. Stories about creations and endings. And them, too, face endings sometimes. They might be dead and destroyed although their light travels in the star ocean that is the sky even after these stars face their endings. It´s the illusion of life that we face on this tiny earth after looking at the night sky and watching stars be there even if they aren't there anymore..
..and sometimes this is a synonym for the human life too. We come to this planet and go away in a pretty short time, but sometimes we continue to live on because of what we have or have not done. We live on in the stories that we leave behind. Some people say that in this world nothing is lost. We do not cease to exist and become nothingness, instead our energy is transformed in another living entity and we continue to live as something else. Maybe as an eagle or maybe as a shark, who knows..
I don´t. Never been much the spiritual man. As far as i´m concerned we only have one life and we should try to live it at its fullest because it´s the only chance we got. But what I agree with is that we do have a way to live on...through our deeds and our feelings. Through our actions and the stories we leave behind we live on in the minds and hearts of those that love or hate us. We live on in the lessons people learn from our existence..
..We die and go from this world but we leave traces of us behind, just like them stars that send their light through the cosmos towards planet earth and that light reaches us even if the stars that emanated it do not exist anymore..
The stars and their light have fascinated human kind since its very existential beginnings. They looked at the night sky and saw thousands and thousands of stars filling the space. They used them as a guide through the night and as light for their tired eyes. They also tried to give a meaning and created the constellations..
..There is Orion symbol of the fighting spirit
..There is Pegasus, symbol of freedom
..There is Phoenix the undying, symbol of the never ending
There is Sirius, of the Canis Major which is not a constellation but one of the shiniest stars under the night sky.
Humans, too, are part of constellations in their life, part of groups and societies and they shine as a collective, just as they are tempted in many cultures to shine as an individual. Yet, just as Sirius the lonestar which shines the brightest in its loneliness, humans too have a price to pay when they try to shine individually, ignoring their respective groups. The price is sometimes mental and physical violence. Mobbing and venomous actions from the ones surrounding them.
Those which shine strong, burn fast.
The road towards glory and individual success is filled with poison and oft more than not, with loneliness. And not everyone is ready to pay this sort of price for their success. Family and groups in which they belong to, are more important to them than individual glory.
But this, this is the price fighters are faced with, often in their careers. They have to fight not only in the ring but also outside of it. They train for hours and hours for their upcoming challenges, leaving by side families and friends. They focus for days and days at their challenges, forgetting almost everything else. And thus, they start to lose important human contacts outside of their fighting existence.
Loneliness is the price fighters must often pay for their championship belts.
A loneliness that follows them step by step even past their prime. Even after they have given up on the sport and on the medals and shiny belts, what sturdily remains is loneliness. It has been their companion for far too long to let them go so easily. And just as I said before, not everyone is ready to pay such a price and carry such a burden for the rest of their lives.
That's why so many gifted athletes never become champions. They value family, love and friends much more than they value success in their professional sports lives. And that is why many others do not win as many medals and belts in their lives.
It is because they have found the balance between social and sportive success. These sort of champions are those that live their lives at their fullest. They win belts and they win families and friends. It´s a heavy compromise though, because sometimes they are the jack of all trades and masters of none.
And then there are the others, which love the sport and the fight and focus on winning as much as possible. They fill the loneliness with shiny medals and golden belts. Yet they don´t feel solitary at all because they have all their hart can desire at the moment and they are able to carry the burden of their choices upon their backs.
They are the falling stars. The meteors which have a huge impact in the professional lives of fighters and professional athletes. They are the hall of famers, the legends of their respective sports. The ones that sacrificed everything for their primary love. The success in their respective disciplines.
They are the meteors that continue to inspire new life in their respective disciplines. They are the figures that inspire the youth. Inspire them to become the new professional athletes. They pay the burden of their choices with social loneliness, yet even so, not so much, because people and more so the Fans remember them.
The question is, is everyone in my upcoming match ready to pay the price for their success?
Am I ready?
...Of course I am.
My name is Vagabond and becoming one of the best in my prime, is one of my dreams. And that is why I do not fear and do not avoid any challenge. Call me the meteor that brings new life to the NAW.
Just like, in some theories, a falling meteor is the source of life in this planet.
A falling meteor, the source of life? That means,we are all made of Stardust..
Yes, it is so. Some, more than others though..
My name is Vagabond. And I will do everything so that my name can be remembered for years to come in these very arenas. It´s a dream I must achieve. And to achieve this dream I must go through two other competitors in the upcoming fight. Danny Hawkins and Jake Jeckel.
Danny. You talk about history in your speech. You say history always repeats itself. Listen to you spouting about gladiators and fights in front of pharaohs. I see history when I see you. I see defeats and sleepless nights of anger because of the lost chances. Yet you still go on, although you´ve faced defeat oh so many times.
For that you deserve a bit of respect.
Not many people are able to keep going for so long after such a negative record. You have strength in you Danny. And you are not dumb. That very strength could help you become an engineer, a sociologist, a successful salesman. Many things ...other than a fighter. Listen to me, give it up and go home.
Become something great in another direction in your life.
You feel it too, don´t you? You agree with me even if its unwanted. You agree that you and Jake Jeckel have to team up to take me out. You two have to leave your differences by side and group up in order to take me out. That´s just like saying you can´t do it alone. A sky-clear admission of impossibility.
Listen to you man. Listen to yourself when you talk. It is sure that I am new to NAW and to great televised shows, yet do you really think I am new to fights in general? You think i´m a useless Rookie? If that was the truth, would I have had the possibility to sign on the dotted line for NAW?
I doubt it.
It is not the first time I find myself at disadvantage and believe me, its not the first time that I will come out victorious. You can keep teaming up wit Jake as much as you want , but when I hit that Ode to Freedom and one of you lies down choking at his own vomit and the other stands face down on the mat you will remember my words. You will remember that I warned you that this is another fight you can´t win..
As far as Jake goes I can´t say much other than the fact that you and your family believe you are some sort of immortals..
Am I right? You think you´ll live forever or something like that? Is that a denial syndrome? You lost something important in your life and you refuse to accept that you too will be lost at some point in existence? Be lost or not be lost you can believe anything you want if it makes you happy and for as long as your beliefs don´t hurt others around you..
Yet there is something else you will have to believe. You will have to believe that your Immortal skills are not enough to beat this simple and mortal Vagabond. You can call all the godlike powers you have at your aid but none of them will be able to allow you to defeat me and get that momentum going on for the tournament we are about to take part on.
I will defeat you in this match and I will defeat you in the upcoming tournament too.
It is not a threat Jake. It´s a promise.
And please, please stop hanging around house dogs and call them wolves. If you knew wolves at all , you would know that there is no greater disgrace for this unconquerable wild king of the forest than to be tamed and eat from human hand. You take zoo wolves that have lost all dignity and train them to be docile for you in a video and show that as a proof of your supremacy..
..Well, Jake, let me say this, in the upcoming fight you will become as docile as a tamed zoo wolf while my howl will be heard in the NAW arenas for years and years.
Anyway, to give Cesar whats Cesar's: No one can predict the future.
May the Best man win in the upcoming fight and may this very fight be one to remember.
